The Season Starts here

by Royal With Cheese » 22 Oct 2012 12:47

Not one for posting much on the team thread but..... here's our next few games:

Fulham (H)
QPR(A)
Norwich(H)
Everton (H)
Wigan (A)
Aston Villa (A)

The next few games sees us play teams that will be in the mix for relegation come the end of the season (Everton excepted). This I believe will give us a better handle on if we can avoid the drop come May next year.

So I for one will not be making a judgement until after these games.

Agreed, this is a crucial run of games and will define our season.

I only hope we go out to win every game and not ever play this pathetic 4-5-1 system, as it clearly doesn't suit our players. So far we've tried it 3 times and lost every game.

We are what we are, a direct pump it into the channel team who play with a high tempo, please lets just go back to that like we did against Newcastle.

McDermott seems to have caught Coppellitis and is over negative, or thinking about it too muh.

If we lose against Fulham and then QPR get their first win against us - i will fear for the unsackable MCD

Fulham (H) LOSE - (cos sod's law means things only get worse)
QPR(A) DRAW - (heads down and lack of confidence)
Norwich(H) WIN - (suddenly everyone thinks we'll win the league)
Everton (H) LOSE - (everyone expecting too much due to last result - reality bites)
Wigan (A) DRAW - (long trip and evens stevens teams)
Aston Villa (A) LOSE (Villa picking up and taking it out on us)

What would people see as a good return from those games? 9 points?

I think something around 8/9 would be good, for sure - if we're close to a point a game (overall) at the end, then I see that we are definitely still at the party.

This all smacks of Brendan's "it's still pre-season in November" bollocks.

just over a third of the way through the season after these games so we want to be just over a third of the way to 40 points we need 11 points from these games, tall order

I think 8 or 9 is would be enough on the proviso that we get something out of the following four games - unfortunately those are Man U (h), Saints (a), Arsenal (h) and Man C (a). As such I think we need to be looking at 12-13 points from the next 10 games - the majority of which would naturally need to come from the first 6 games.

Fulham (H) DRAW - Average side at home, we should walk away with a point.
QPR(A) WIN - Club bereft of any confidence. Easy win.
Norwich(H) WIN - Got a freak result against Arsenal but still sh*t
Everton (H) WIN - Our own little freak result, and we're there bogey side
Wigan (A) LOSE - We always lose against Wigan away. Miserable little club, miserable little ground, miserable fans who make no atmosphere.
Aston Villa (A) WIN - The poorest team in the league. If we cant beat them, we've had it ourselves.

Following that:

Manchester United (H) LOSE - Out of steam
Southampton (A) WIN - Le Fonz strikes again
Arsenal (H) LOSE - Out of Steam again
Manchester City (A) LOSE - Why even bother wasting loads of energy on this, when they tear every club (eg. West Brom) apart in the last 5 minutes.

This, 100%.

If we don't take much from the next 6, we're going to be pretty marooned at the bottom as we approach halfway through the season.

Would be delighted with that run of results!

Unlike Reading, QPR have been playing better than their points total suggests. It won't be an easy game at all.

You can see that from both ways though - if I were a QPR fan, I'd be quite concerned that we hadn't managed to beat Everton despite playing pretty well, having a load of chances, the opposition down to ten men, and them giving away the ball in defence constantly for the last 20 mins
