QPR: Back from the Match / Pub / TV

Well. Can anyone say they are surprised?

First 30 - excellent
Second 30 - ok
Third 30 - poor.

Once again we allowed a team we were beating right back into the game. Their goal had been coming for ages with us totally losing the domination that we had in the first half hour that gave us 60% possession and control of the match. We're bollocksed. Rather than going to kill the game off, or flooding out midfield we settle for what we've got after a while and just invite the opposition back into the game. That was a Championship game.

McCarthy - 8 Great saves when called on,I'd like to see him catch a bit more. Can't really be faulted with the goal
Gunter - 7 Actually quite impressed with him today, he performed reasonably well
Shorey - 6.5 Set pieces could have been better and some slight dodgy moments but ok
Morrison - 6.5 surprisingly good, but could have given away a dubious penalty on Mackie and failed to win the ball for their goal
Gorkss - 6.5 Scored and looked better in defence today but still not brilliant
Ledge - 6.5 strong and controlled on the ball but got sucked deeper and deeper as the game went on, poor shooting.
Tabb - 8 MOTM played it tidy, won lots of ball, hustled all game but got sucked too deep as we lost the initiative.
McAnuff - 6.5 decent play, didn't put great final ball in worked hard
McCleary - 6 didn't do a lot to impress as a starter today
Roberts - 6 worked hard produced little
Hunt - 6 worked hard produced little

Kebe - 6 great runs terrible finishing
HRK - 6 ok, awful finishing
ALF - 6 little time, little opportunity, unlucky on the yellow as he was springing straight back up.

McDermott - 5 Subs too late again. Nothing to add into midfield when we could have tried to see the game out. I'd have liked to see Pog come on for Roberts who was doing ok but not really hurting QPR. Or HRK / Kebe for Hunt or Roberts to stick McAnuff in the middle and see it out after 60 minutes and just play on the break.

Brian McDermott says our 1-1 draw at QPR was a very positive reaction following the cup defeat to Arsenal in midweek.


McDermott's Royals were perhaps in the spotlight after our 7-5 reverse in midweek, but responded with a good performance. Overall a 1-1 draw was probably a fair result.


Brian said, "It's a positive point and a great reaction from what happened on Tuesday.


"We were 1-0 up today, could have gone further ahead and if we get a second it would have been done and dusted. We started brightly, it was an open game and our performance today was a good one away from home. We'll take the point and move on.


"As I mentioned it was a great reaction from the cup game. I know exactly what happened on Tuesday, at no point were we opened up in the 90 minutes, a couple of set plays and a long ball did us. That was just a freak game and I put virtually the same team out because I thought it was the right team for today. They did us proud, we were excellent at times, we really dug in, this is never an easy place to come, Chelsea have drawn here, Everton have drawn here as well.


"They've got good players here, Cisse scored with a good finish, Taarabt had his chance late on and McCarthy made another fabulous save. We have to move on and we look forward to playing at home next week.


"We also had a couple of opportunities, a couple of free headers we could have done better with. Probably late in the game our quality into the box needs to be better, but there's no disappointment in our dressing room today. We've got a result and even at the end we were trying to win it, so were QPR as well."


Asked to look ahead to November's fixtures, Brian simply said, "I just try to get to the next place up in the League, nothing else. Last season we tried to get up from 20-odd in the League, then when we got to first we couldn't go any further!


"We've been in the lead on five occasions, there's only Spurs who have caused us massive problems. We've been right in every other game, by definition we need to make sure we finish games off.


"Every day I take heart from our players because they're such a great bunch. They have such a great spirit, you could see that today, they really put in a good shift for the club. I don't think about anything else, just getting back into training Tuesday."

We are a team of average championship players (minus Roberts, Pog and shorey???) who are giving it their 110%, working our socks off to get a draw where as
QPR are a team of quality players that are not playing to their 100% capability and gaining similar results to us.

so where does that leave us?

A team like QPR could/will improve to unlock their full potential (Through a manager change or other means) gain results. whereas us with, I really cant see us playing any better than the performances that have been displayed so far. We are basically depending on luck, grafting and hard work... skill, experience and class will always out do this.

Lucky not to lose again. It's painful to watch our play degenerate so drastically over the course of a game.

Biggest positive for me is Morrison playing, looks a beast.

I think any team from 10-20th is beatable for us really. As said before get one win and we could go on a decent run.
