That midfield would get raped.

Like the look of the starting 11 not sure about the bench.
If Guthrie/Pog are serious about the club, let em prove it. This is a brilliant stage for them.

If the transfer window is open before Monday, I'd play Messi and Ronaldo up front; be good to get Cole in at left back, Fellaini in midfield, Shawcross in at centre back. And lay them down a challenge: score more than Feds lets in.

midfield is too lightweight, guthrie and tabb for me. I think tabb might work better with guthrie than Ledge

+1 Tabb would provide some defensive cover and more mobility whereas Leigertwood only provides 'defensive cover'. Might still be a bit lightweight but Arsenal are hardly bruisers.

Just to be slightly pedantic, why have five subs when we can name seven?

On a more serious note why be naming Clark Kent, Bruce etc when we could be naming a bench of Superman, the hulk, etc?

My god that was nerdy.

Hmmmm this game is a bit of a biggy for the managers. If Reading win, Brian will surely get his backing back (which is what he deserves). If he loses - the noisy plastics will be out in force demanding his head, because he's struggling in the best league in the world.

If Arsenal win, Arsenal fans will still be calling for Wengers head. But if Reading win. My word. That COULD be Wengers job done and dusted.

Either way, I say play Guthrie if he's fit. I'm warming to a final final chance for him....if he's gash, then he's for the transfer list.
Andersen is a good choice in goal - Fedders belonged on the transfer list 18 months ago.
Pog up front - yes. Come on then you big russian galoof - you show us you're good enough, and we'll have talks about where your future lay. Show you're actually pants, then we'll have a chat about how cheaply we can get rid of you.

I think the strength of 442 for us over the years has clouded McD's judgement. Our midfield is nowhere near good enough to enable us to play just two in the middle and be so open. It was ok at Championship level where we were happy to give up possession for the whole game as our defence and central midfield was good enough to withstand the pressure and eventually break up play or force the opposition into a mistake, and then counter quickly. This simply isn't the case at this level. Our best away performance (Or at least 45 minutes) came in the first half at Stamford Bridge. We packed the midfield, actually got the ball down, so much so that we had the better of the possession in the first half. Guthrie was excellent that day. I think we need to accept that we don't have the personnel to play 442. Until we have two players the quality of Dembele and Sandro in the middle, we will have to adapt to our surroundings.

I'd go with -

Fed

Cummings
Morrison (If fit)
Mariappa
Shorey

Kebe (If fit)
Guthrie
Tabb
Leigertwood
McAnuff

Pog

Subs - McLeary, HRK, Harte, Taylor, ALF, Pearce, Roberts

As if Shawcross would want to leave Stoke for Reading...

The thought of us winning on Monday is ludicrous.
