Our Midfield Issues Solved...

by moonwalklikebas » 18 Dec 2012 12:00

Ian Harte. Sat on the bench. Excellent passer of the ball. Great vision. Sit him infront of the back four (Makelele style) doesnt need pace in this position.

Thoughts?

moonwalklikebas doesnt need pace in this position.

But then we still haven't solved the issue.....ie, no attacking midfielder and a slow player not able to track back when their CM gets in to the box, in space (Gomez/Rooney/Cazorla)

That doesn't solve the midfield problems though.

Leigertwood is awful. He concedes possession so easily, and isn't a good passer of the ball either. He's a confidence player, so even more reason to take him out of the team.
Tabb, god love the little mite, isn't any good to us at this level, but he's still worth more than the lump Leigertwood.

We need Karacan back and Guthrie in there, or as you say, bring Harte into a holding role.

The wingers also need to work a lot harder. They don't track back nearly enough at the moment and they're often static when we're in possession.

Just watching Arsenal's movement last night should be lesson enough for us to improve our game. They were brilliant both on and off the ball.

And more importantly, we need a settled side!!! All this chopping and changing because Brian doesn't know his best eleven doesn't help us at all. How is the team supposed to gel when we make so many changes?

Pearce dropped and was our best defender at Sunderland.
Alf dropped and he's currently popping them in for us.
Still no Guthrie when we've apparently drawn a line under the whole fiasco...

Ridiculous.

Already suggested that on the 4-5-1 thread.

With Guthrie just in front of him and Tabb filling the hole behind Pog. Take your pick of the wide players although don't include McAnuff at all.

If Ian Harte is the answer I've completely forgotten the question.

Difference between Harte and Legs is that Harte can actually pick a pass and not stumble a 5 yard pass. Also Maps played in CDM for watford a few times.

He keeps changing the team because we keep losing. No point picking the same team that keeps losing is there? He doesn't know his best 11. I do agree however that Alfie should have kept his place, that's a strange one.

Unfortunately shuffling the team and not the system is like shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic, doesn't make any difference. stability was required last night after all the goals that have been conceded and a 5 man midfield should have been deployed especially as it seems that he is never going to drop Ledge

Unfortunately I believe McD was deluded to think that as these guys gave Man Utd a go last time out, that they would do the same to Arsenal.

The Guthrie role?? That useless prima donna, doesn't have a role. Unless you count sitting on the transfer list so that we can get rid ASAP.

Ha, I can see you're a fan....

I disagree, I'd have a midfield 3 that included Guthrie

I would give this a try, just on the basis that it has not been tried yet. Someone who can tackle in front of our back four. I would also bin the wingers and ask the wide men to interchange and move around rather than stay out on the wing. I would love to see HRK or Kebe driving at the CBs with the ball rather than coming down the wings, with Pog up top. Can't see any of this happening as I wouldn't play Ledge or Jobi (so that's not going to happen!) and BMc won't give up his wingers......... oh and Jimmy has probably got a thigh strain, sore knee, perforated nail after his little outburst last night

Harte was in the championship team of the season 2 years running and was dominating.

he needs a run in the first time and potentially boss the centre mid.

the guy is a legend

Karacan and Guthrie both had a run out with the stiffs today so both should be available for Saturday`s massacre
