Dave Kitson - Forever a Reading legend!

by LoyalRoyalFan » 25 Jan 2013 21:30

Sheffield United striker Dave Kitson has admitted he is still affected by the hurt of being relegated from the top flight with Reading five years ago.

The 33-year-old returns to the Madejski Stadium with the Blades in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday. Kitson made 34 appearances as the Royals dropped out of the Premier League after two seasons in May 2008.

"It was an absolutely horrendous time, I'll never get over it because it nearly cost me everything," he said.
"You are responsible for people losing their jobs and you are coming into training in your nice car and you see people carrying boxes of their possessions out. You just think, 'I did that, that's my fault'.
"It has affected me to this day and I nearly lost everything over what happened there."

Kitson scored 60 goals in 147 games during his initial five-year stint with Reading before leaving for Stoke for £5.5 million in the wake of their relegation.

He struggled for form at the Potters and rejoined the Berkshire side on loan the following season before eventually moving on to Portsmouth in September 2010.

The former Cambridge man says he still keeps across Reading's results.
"They're my team and they're the team I take my son to watch," he told BBC Radio Sheffield.
"I always have a chat with [Reading boss] Brian McDermott after their games, whatever the result, He was the one who convinced Steve Coppell to take a chance on me and I can never thank him enough for that.
"I really hope he can keep them on their current run and they can survive."

Good on you! 8)

Love Kits. Especially for his ability to repeatedly rip West Ham's back four a new one.

Good or bad, Kitson always came across as a 'normal' bloke who happened to play football for a living.

Refreshing to hear one of them with a grip on reality.

Agreed, will be a Reading legend.

His hat-trick against West Ham will have to go down as one of the best, if not the best, hat-trick ever scored in a Reading shirt.

Best hat trick in Reading shirt I've seen was Forster vs Ipswich in 2002. 3 sublime goals

Love the guy and have all the time in the world for him. From the moment he popped two in against West Ham on Pardew's return he was a legend. Great attitude on the pitch, always committed, and a top player in his prime. He'll get a massive cheer from me tomorrow.

Having seen RFC players come and go for 40+ years now, seem mean absolutely nothing at all to me. But Dave Kitson will get a round of applause from me tomorrow. Not everyone's cup of tea, but he clearly has affection with the club. Scored some important goals for us, and from what he has reported to have said he is still Reading at heart.
Top bloke...but hope he loses tomorrow.

I will never forget that C U N T Riggot who munched him in the centre circle and put him out for 9months.

I just feel that was the demise of his footballing ability.

KITS=LEGEND!
