Best RFC 'keeper of all time

by marcusopp » 11 Feb 2013 20:40

I've been watching the almighty royals since the late 80's and find it difficult to choose between Feds and Shaka.
I wasn't around during the steve death era, but he has the best name without a doubt!

A honourable mention to Marcus.

Between Shaka and Hahnemann. Feds is some way behind those two.

I'd have thought Death must be up there, never saw him though.

Deathy was a great keeper at the level we were playing at the time, he would have been found out at the highest level because of his size

I voted Hahnemann in the end, not necessarily because I think he was better than Shaka, but because he should definitely finish ahead of Federici.

A walk in the park for Shaka. We've had some very good keepers over the years - but I've never really re-captured that feeling of complete faith in a goalkeeper than Shaka was able to achieve. As mentioned earlier - only really had one stinker for us - unfortunately it was at Wembley - and even then, he played better than most other goal-keepers would have managed.

Are the goals bigger in the higher leagues then?

Steve Death

Held the record for the longest time without conceding until Van der Sarr took it from him.

No contest.

Saying he would be found out at the highest level is a ridiculous statement. Sorry.

Seeing Mihilovic on the list reminds me of a story at the time. I heard that one of the reasons he signed for Reading was that he'd seen footage of the play-off game against Bolton, and he thought that Wembley was our home ground!

Never had the privilege of seeing Death or 'Shaaaaakur' play. I'll have to go USA for that reason - although I believe it would be different had I witnessed one/or both of the other two!
