Nigel Adkins' cheesy message for Reading supporters

by maffff » 06 Jun 2013 14:03

Which football manager sent this cheesy message to his club's supporters ahead of the new season?

Reading boss Nigel Adkins has produced a somewhat cheesy motivational message for Reading supporters as the club urges them to renew their season tickets.

Mails sent out to fans seen as 'potential season ticket holders' received the following list of goals endorsed by the Royals manager.

'The season ahead - an exciting opportunity for promotion again,' began the message from the relegated side, printed on a flipchart next to a picture of Adkins.

Tacky? The message from Nigel Adkins to Reading supporters

'A desire to win games. A desire to score goals. Home advantage generated by noisy and passionate fans. A fantastic season to be a Reading supporter.'

This was supplemented by another flyer on which Adkins continued his message.

He said: ‘The football club is about the supporters and we all share that same common goal. We want to be excited about coming to Madejski Stadium, I know it’s hard earned cash that people fork out to see their team.

'They want to see a team that’s committed, a team that ideally plays attacking football to score goals. They know they have a massive role to play – the Reading supporters were the first supporters to be given the number 13 shirt, to be the 13th man. That’s how important the role is that they play.’

Adkins does have history with flipcharts - he left a heart-warming message for his Southampton players after being sacked last season.

He wrote: 'Keep smiling, have faith and belief that you are doing the right thing. Keep looking to improve.'

Massive yawn.

I'll buy my season ticket when there is enough cash in the bank account and not a minute sooner.

I think it's great. Though, it just seems as if you get damned for anything you do..

Cheesy yes, but look at the fundamentals and apart from essentially wanting your cold hard cash, the club wants your support and says that this will be an exciting season.

I doubt he put that together! Probably some marketing chap at the club.

Still, I like it.

It does read like Adkins though, e.g.

I thought the flipchart message was written by a member of his backroom staff at Saints and wrongly attributed to Adkins?

In any event, +1 to ZacNaloen's timing of purchasing.

EDIT: beaten.

If we're the 13th man, then who's the 12th?

It still sounds like something Adkins would say, so it comes down to whether you think our media team aren't talented enough to fake someone else's voice.

You can bet the people moaning about this will be the same that complain about modern football not caring about the fans.

Yes it's a little cheesy, but it's good to see he (and the club) cares about entertaining and attracting the fans.

The message isn't buy it NOW, it's simply buy it, please. They're not trying to force you to go overdrawn this month.

Say nothing - get slated for lack of interest in fans.
Say something - get slated for style of message.

Massive :|

I strongly suspect that you are severely underrating the abilities of Adkins and overrating the abilities of the marketing folks when it comes to producing this sort of thing. My money (based on what he has done in the past) would be on this being the work of Adkins.
