BFTG - Middlesbrough

by Barry the bird boggler » 28 Dec 2013 16:41

Lousy start as per usual, managed an attempt on the corner flag in the 41st minute but by then it was too late as our defending had already killed off any reasonable challenge for a point.

Bit brighter in the second half though but still a little confused by the replacement of Pogrebnyak with Federici late on. Finally forced their keeper into catching a cross after an hour or so and it was a shame the consolation penalty rebounded back off the post and set up their breakaway goal

Still I expect Nigel will be happy we kept possession well at times although he might be a little concerned that McLeary actually got behind their defence at one point so it'll be a busy few days trying to get him back into the team system before Forest on Wednesday (afternoon for all those thinking it's an evening game).

Didn't we win? I fell asleep after 20 minutes.

6-0 flattered Boro. That's the first consistent 90 minutes of the season though to be fair. An inch towards the mile.

I thought Blackman was great, but i still passionately hate him and give him a 2 out of 10.

I can't comment on the game, only on the result. I didn't go, I didn't listen as I was working. But those who did travel deserve credit for their dedication and commitment.

I heard Tim Dellor say it was the worst away performance he has seen.

I watched us whip Watford at home for 45 minutes and then collapse. I saw us win at Nottingham Forest in an amazing Friday night away atmosphere. I've also been to Yeovil and all other home matches.

We are 9th in the league. I've heard callers to BBCRB call in saying they want refunds, and want Adkins sacked. That I can comment on.

I fully back Adkins, he's our manager. I don't want to be like all the other clubs, sacking people just because results haven't gone our way. I think his starting 11 today was spot on. I can't speak about his substitutions as I wasn't there and don't know exactly how they were chosen.

I support RFC and I think Adkins needs to be backed for longer.

Anyone who went to the game today is fully entitled to their opinion, and quite frankly, if they've travelled 400 miles or whatever it is, I'll definitely listen to them.

Currently 200 miles away from home in a service station where I can't understand the staff, thinking was it worth it?

As my girlfriend pointed out 'we aren't very quick, we can't turn, we just go sideways' we actually looked better without gorks in the side.

I'm not sure what else to put, we were crap, I don't think il go for a while now

Oh it also should have been about 4-0 in the first half. McCarthy made some good saves, and some equally shit ones. Fumbled a lot today

Ps Blackman did okay when he came on. MOTM for me.

Don't blame you LWJ, dedication going up there.

I've got all home games in January, plus Brighton away in cup, Watford away and Millwall away in the next month. Part of me isn't looking forward to it, but luckily I enjoy the day out and a few beers instead.

However, it's a major downer. I don't mind losing (really), as long as theres a fight, and a footie match going on, not just a miserable walkover.

Dellor is turning into a complete and utter bellend. Thank god they put Mick Gooding alongside him to instil a bit of intelligent commentary and debate.

If that was the worst away performance he has ever seen, then perhaps he should be seeing a doctor about his loss of memory. I'm sure it was far from great but I bet every travelling supporter who has been following the club for more than a couple of seasons could name performances that have been significantly worse.

Gooding and Williams didn't sound too impressed either.
But yes I'm sure it's Dellor's negativity that is destroying Nige's confidence. Much like how the 'mong' fans are responsible for the players performing badly...

Perhaps Dellor was exaggerating slightly. But does it really matter whether it was the worst away performance or only the 3rd worst away performance he's ever seen?
It wasn't very good basically.

Were you there??? Rather trust someone who goes to all these games. After 50 years of watching I would say all round the performances are about the worst I've ever seen

Dellor - despite his negativity (understandable) has actually mellowed towards Adkins a bit. He is now moaning about the performances rather than moaning directly at Adkins.

The BBCRB team know more than they're letting on with regards to things behind the scenes IMO.

Oh and kudos to the hardcore that travelled today. Can't have been easy knowing that we'd probably lose.

"But no excuses, we weren't good enough to be where we want to be and that is pushing for the Premier League. We know we need to strengthen in January and we have had injuries but that performance was nowhere near good enough - and it's my responsibility to deal with it."

Everyone knows we need to add to the team in jan

Laughable BBCRB thoughts of a 4-4 game before kick off. Laughable BBCRB lackey commentary in the first half in comparison to their quite rightly so though negativity in the second half, we could all see this result coming. They know more than they are letting on and so are being lenient in their interviews, but very much welcomed how much more open NA came today in the post match. Did you hear the anonymous colleague of AW state how the current situation is the manager's fault. Has Nigel lost the dressing room, sounds a bit like the late days of the Coppell era, blamed on post Prem slump but in all fairness just some inflated player egos. I for one hope NA succeeds, he is the manager, the team will consistently change.

I can only speak from what I read on here as I live abroad and can't attend matches (I'm almost grateful to be honest, hearing the comments on here) but, surely, even if we strengthen in January we aren't going anywhere if our tactics are to play the ball sideways. Barcelona play tic tac with a purpose, Reading, it seems, don't.
