What's to blame?

by genome » 04 Jan 2014 17:30

As most of us seem to be split, would be interested to see some numbers here and actually see what the general consensus is.

Who/what is to blame for our poor performances? Is it the players' fault we have only mustered 7 shots on target in the last four games? Or Adkins tactics? Or is he being severely limited by our freakish run of injuries?

Let's see where the fans lie...

As with a lot of things the problem isn't down to one thing in particular. IMHO its a combination of all them.

although the manager picks the team id say it falls on the head of the players, they call them self professionals who compared to most of us earn silly amounts of money. so all the players, whoever adkins picks should be capable of putting a shift in when asked of them

I want to select 3 of them.

This combination of senior players can't do what the manager needs for 90 minutes.

The youth team could but are too young/inexperienced/not quite good enough for the championship. This is obvious.

We need a clear out and we should write this season off as a consolidation.

Adkins needs to be given the chance and backing to bring in his players, and players that aren't wanted need to be let go lest they disrupt things.

Ultimately, the issue is ownership, who can't back Adkins so he has to make do with players who lack the technique he wants/needs and he is unable to teach them it in the time he has. 10,000 hours to become an expert etc

Making the changes needed at this level is expensive.

Adkins made the mistake of saying the aim was promotion this year, this should have been a consolidation and transition year from the beginning.

That said, if Karacan was fit I'm convinced our midfield wouldn't be the shit show it is right now.

What do fans know though, eh?

Most kicked up a shit storm when Mcdermott looked like he was getting the job and Coppell was getting shit the season and transfer window before we won on record points.

Ownership issues clearly won''t help but the manager and his staffs role is to get the best out of the group of players.

We now have defenders who are scared stiff with the ball at their feet.
A non creative midfield
and a forward line starved of any service.

I'm not sure Adkins is getting the best out of them.

Appointing Adkins only made sense if Anton was prepared to back him with funds to change the whole ethos of the club to a more passing style.

Reading between the lines this is what Nigel was promised and the basis on which he accepted the job.

If we wanted someone to get the best out out of an average group of championship players then we should have stuck with Brian.

Quite why Anton has had such a change of heart may never be know but -unlike with BR- we are not in any danger of relegation and there are no better candidates likely to take the job with this level of uncertainty so giving Nigel the rest of the season as a minimum seems like the only logical course of action.

We'll we didn't back him and now he needs to go. Get a track suit manager in who can relate to players and fans alike

this! nail on the head. injuries are killing us. at the beginning of the season when everyone was healthy you could clearly see the change in style and the progression. after the injuries to many first team players it has become a shit show.

Players and a mix of bad attitudes in the squad.

Drenthe today a good example, arguing with Crosby when he was asked to pick up his marker. Adkins has said players aren't doing what he asks, and there's an example of some players thinking they know better. Get these people out of our club ASAP, save on the ridiculous wages!

Injuries not helping but we still looked toothless with them.

We are still going through a transitional phase! Deal with it! We have a lot of injuries plus takeover talks not helping. Some players do not get what NA wants. They need to get it or we should move them on. Get in some more of your kind of player NA or you will get fired.

Comparisons with BM are really silly. We were pretty average under him but very very lucky. In the PL the luck ran out and our lack of quality was found out.

Changes in the club are being made we need to stick with it. Back NA and spend some cash. If we do that an NA still does not get results then he has to go. I would prefer to wait and see if he can build a side. We do need some injuries back. We really miss Jem big time.

Quite.

If Adkins wants the players out there to play with zero urgency I'll eat my hat.

Doesn't follow from what his Scunthorpe and Southampton teams did.
