Summer Rebuild - Your Preferred 5 To Go?

by 1871 not 1998 » 08 Mar 2014 16:28

New owners or not, we are in for some big changes next season, and I personally cannot wait to see the back of a lot of the over-paid rubbish playing for this club. There aren't many players in the current side I would be disappointed to see leave this summer!

What 5 (or more if you like) players are you least bothered about and would prefer went this summer ahead of other players?

1. Pavel Pogrebnyak
2. Hal Robson-Kanu
3. Stephen Kelly
4. Alex Pearce
5. Nick Blackman

Really? Why?

Also surprised you have Pearce on the list.He bleed's blue & White and chips in with some important goals

1. McCarthy / Federici (wages)
2. Pogrebnyak (wages)
3. Leigertwood (age, wages, injuries)
4. Roberts (age, wages, injuries - retiring anyway)
5. Gorkss (age, wages)
Bonus as Roberts has announced his retirement: Blackman (wages probably disproportionate to contribution)

Main problem with that is it leaves us with just one senior striker.

Those massive wages? His poor goal return? The man wins next to nothing in the air. He is a luxury! My first to go, but we need 2-3 strikers to come in this summer, starting with Sharp (if the take-over gets the nod).

With the exception of Hector I wouldn't renew any contracts that are due to expire.

I'd look to sell Guthrie and Pogrebnyak if possible.

Not that I think any of those who would leave under this are bad players, just the that wage bill is quite large and FFP fines are the last thing we need.

i thought we couldnt be hit by ffp yet since we 1. bought guthrie and pog in before ffp 2. we were relegated and thus exempt from the first year of ffp.

Not this year no. But selling anyone this summer would only affect next year when we would be in for consideration.

Back of the envelope calculation, based on how our income would reduce suggests we could be in danger if we were to let Pog and Guthries contracts run to the end.

And I think we have players more suited to what Adkins wants to see in the youth ranks, even if they are inexperienced.

1. Wayne Bridge
2. Mikele Leigertwood
3. Nick Blackman
4. Stephen Kelly
5. One of Feds/McCarthy, both are great but probably can't afford first team wages for someone who's on the bench 95%. Would prefer to keep McCarthy.

what happens if we get wealthy new owners who can afford to keep pog/guthrie on and bring players in? the way i understand it means that we can only be over budget on transfers by 2m a year?

Basically that, not 100% on the figure the owner is allowed to invest.

Personally I'd rather the owners were only able focus on infrastructure investment than supplementing the players wages . Think the clubs should have to look after themselves on that front.

1. feds, bring back anderson to sit on the bench as he is more than adequatte
2. wayne bridge. he is fantastic but surely on massive wages, and he is possibly too old to continue at this level.
3. gorkks. same as bridge, but not as high of wages. with hector, morro, and pearce in contention we should be fine.
4. blackman. useless as a winger and striker. not sure of his wages but they are more than likely too high for what he is worth.
5. pog. as much as i would hate to see him go, he is on massive massive wages and we can find a goalscorer(s) with better return than him for much less.

*edit: if we can keep pog, get rid of legs instead.

1. Blackman - NEVER seen what he brings
2. Gorkss - Time to move on, not that he's a bad player
3. Akpan (maybe loan him) - Just don't rate him
4. McCarthy or Federici - For their own good and perhaps a few quid in.
5. Legs - Time for the younger players to get some minutes, loved him though.

6. Cummings/Kelly - Not sure why we have 3 right backs
7. Taylor, S -
8. Roberts -
9 Taylor, J - Prefer Tanner who is younger
