Wow. Pleased for him but he has never struck me as a leader. For me, Pearce > Guthrie > Gunter > Morrison > Karacan in the leadership stakes. Hopefully Jem will rise to it, but I'm baffled by this decision. Who will be captain for the 30 games he isn't fit for?

Karacan will lead by example with the amount of effort he puts in, would've gone with Pearce personally but Jem is definitely a very good alternative. We wouldn't have any players left if Guthrie lead by example.

Not my personal choice but reasonably happy with it. Given he's an academy boy, it's a good PR move by NA as everyone will be 100% behind him.

Can't fault his work rate / effort / commitment etc so definitely ticks the boxes in that respect. Seems to be well liked around the place but I just wonder if he can command respect from some of the older ones.

He'll need to have a good season but if he does, I'm sure it will mean RFC will too..

Point accepted. Perhaps Morrison and Hector are going to be fighting for a place rather than Morrison being an automatic start.

I like Jem, glad for him, much better option than Gunter.

Jem was captain of the youth team in his day. I think he is a leader, - just need him to be fit for most of the season.

We let all the older players go at the end of last season ! Our squad has an average age of 22 apparently, making Jem firmly in the 'older player' camp

I'm sure these appointments aren't made on a whim, Adkins will have spoken to players and wouldn't have appointed Jem unless he was who the players were backing.

Will be interesting to see who captains the team on the field....
