Kuhl in, Akpan OUT

by SPARTA » 19 Aug 2014 22:20

On that showing, Kuhl in and Akpan out. He is a natural holding midfielder with a fantastic range of passing! He plays with such a calm and mature head, where as Akpan never looks comfortable in possession, and his passing is atrocious.

I don't mind a defeat when you can see positives like Kuhl tonight. Hopefully lessons learnt, and lives lost for a player who is surely only involved at the moment because of injuries, and his time at the club finally coming to an end.

Kuhl did well but he needs to bulk up a bit before being given a starting berth imo.

He does, but that didn't hurt him tonight did it? I don't recall him giving the ball away once for such a slight young man!

Not sure what you think Akpan did wrong today. Better than most of the team. He also improved massively when Kuhl came on and he could play alongside/in front of a proper midfielder

I like Kuhl's arrogance.

Could be a decent enough player, he has the potential to do that.

Today, previous game, last season - no improvement, mistakes waiting to happen. Lots of effort, nil quality. There are better players at the club, most are currently injured, a young pup came on tonight that put in a performance that Akpan isn't ever capable of. (no misplaced passes for a start). Sell!

I like how he was talking to the ref and telling people what to do.

Natural captain. He didn't look out of place out there, and as you say, talking and directing players around him that are established at this level. Superb.

Kuhl in for someone, definitely.
If Adkins starts Akpan and Obita in CM again he should be sacked on the spot. The most ineffective cm partnership I've seen in years.

I really hope that is the last game Akpan plays for us, Kuhl alongside Norwood for me with Obita moving to left

And what, Obita out? Taylor out? Cummings out? Blackman out? They've all been pretty good so far. It's going to be a tough choice. Central midfield has to change.

I have no idea what the point of Taylor is

I thought he was one of the better players on the pitch today. Won the ball, held it up well, passed well.

Much better CM than Obita.

In fact Kuhl & Akpan looked pretty good as a pair

I should say that Akpan had a poor 1st half but improved considerably once Kuhl came in & Obita went to LB.

Besides costing us the game with their first goal you mean?

Akpan needs someone alongside him who can tell him what to do. Kuhl came on second half, bossed him about and he looked much better for it.

I'm not a huge fan of Akpan, but his limitations are all to do with decision making, positioning, etc. Put someone next to him who can do that for him and he's ok. Obita could easily have been the one caught in possession tonight, he was pretty poor in midfield too.

Kuhl showed masses of potential tonight and was very good. But he's still very young and he will have poor games and make mistakes. He's a great asset, but he's not the answer to our prayers just yet. He needs time to develop. We should be proud of our academy though, it's produced some very talented footballers. With time and experience, they'll become good players for us.

And here we go ...

I commented immediately after the goal that it wouldn't take long before people were scapegoating Akpan for being delivered an impossible pass by Hector. You have fallen straight into it. Oh dear.
