Worst Game Ever

What was the worst performance you have ever witnessed. Today was turgid but we still have a long way to go to beat this:

I agree with that too. 0-0 at half time, I wonder what was said to the players for them to churn out that bollox for the second half

If I could have punched Ray Houghton after that game I would have.

Games where you get hammered always stick in the mind. But i've yet to see a worse game than the 1-1 draw with Scunthorpe on 27 Nov 1999.

Attendance - 6,142

Hobnob Report At this point there was only one team in it: Scunthorpe. Reading threatened to let at least one more in and the East Stand could take no more. "We're shit, and we're sick of it, we're shit..." and of course "You're not fit to wear the hoops".

Then with just three minutes left of the clock Reading scored the equaliser to win back a point. The ball was crossed from the right by Caskey and Hunter was there at the far post to rise and head the ball home.

Hunter's late equaliser almost certainly saved the Madejski Stadium's first ever pitch invasion, and provided the first bit joy of the afternoon for the home fans - after 87 minutes of play...............At this rate Division Three football looks more likely than unlikely.

I was down the front with half the rest of the East Stand preparing to get on the pitch to vent spleen. The equaliser drew the poison and papered over the cracks for another week. The pitch demo finally took place a couple of months later against Cambridge, I think.

It's not end thread, he asked for a game that was witnessed? And as I didn't watch that game I can't agree with you

27/08/13, League Cup
Peterborough 6 - 0 Reading
Worse even than today's effort. At least today we did appear to be trying occasionally.

This gets my vote as well, didn't stick around to see the sixth go in, 5 was enough for me.

6-1 defeat at home to Palace in 96/97 was pretty dire and I also remember a 3-0 capitilation at home to an utterly inept Port Vale in 1998 that prompted an on the pitch demo. Away to Oxford and away to Stockport around the same time were also awful. In fact, Bullivant's last 10 games in charge were a drawn out footballing suicide.

Sitting through that Wigan defeat at home when Pog got sent off two seasons ago was pretty painful. We've lost worse before and after, but something about the turgid grinding inevitability of it all really stuck in my mind.

Is that the one when a group of TTB contributors spoke with Branfoot in his office after the game?

Ian Bran foot's last game in charge - a shocking 4-1 defeat to Leyton Orient. Steve Francis was inspired, the rest were dire. Was still amazed when Branfoot went, thought he was going to keep the job forever...

That was a strange time, yes a dire performance at Orient but the run before that was pretty good - didn't it include a 6-1 win at Swansea? Lot of draws though.
