Team For Ipswich

by SCIAG » 18 Feb 2015 00:18

I hope knees will jerk. Ideally at least two of the midfielders should be dropped and Chalobah shouldn't play in defence, if at all. It seems completely disrespectful to our youngsters to keep playing non-performers ahead of them.

In case anyone is wondering, we can't recall any of our loanees except the Basingstoke pair (and maybe Tshibola? We extended his loan less than a month ago so it seems unlikely), but if we have another disaster then we can get Tanner back before Huddersfield.

Federici

Kelly, Pearce, Cooper, Obita
Stacey, Kuhl, Williams, Mackie
Cox, Pogrebnyak

Subs: Andersen, Hector (if fit)/Chalobah, Travener, Guthrie (if fit)/Akpan, Fosu, McCleary, Yakubu

Particularly harsh on HRK after his performance at Derby but Fosu deserves a spot on the bench more. Would probably switch them again for H'field, but I don't think we can just keep switching between HRK and Blackman. Hopefully dropping them both will give them a kick.

There's been some bizarre changes from Clarke recently, particularly for Leeds and Wigan... ok so before the game I thought Chalobah to defence made something resembling sense. But apparently not.

We've got to stick to partnerships that work.

In midfield
Williams & Chalobah - yes.
Norwood & Akpan - yes.
Williams & Karacan - maybe
Williams & Kuhl - maybe
Kuhl & Karacan - maybe

Anything else, no. Just no. Maybe, just maybe play a three man midfield if the attacking one is Jake Taylor.

Cooper has to start in defence. He's a centreback. He's had about one bad game. He's ours.

The problem is, bar midfield, which is a collection of decent players who don't work together, we don't have any pissing options that are half decent. We've got one actual good winger and he only turns up occasionally. We've got a good support striker on a goal drought. We've got a good, but flawed centreback. A good keeper. That's it. Everything else is sub-standard.

I think Clarke has to either try to get as close to the team that beat Wolves as possible, so Cooper in for Hector. Or he's got to go revolution to shake people up and see how it goes. I'd choose the former, I simply can't think of doing the latter without half the normal crowd in the team anyway.

Bar a decent goal against Wednesday, I've not seen anything from Chalobah to suggest he's anything better than what we already had. And what we have is, quite frankly, the worst collection of central midfielders we've had at the club for a long, long time.

Certainly haven't seen any signs of him forging a decent partnership with Williams. Williams and Norwood don't work. How Williams is a full International is a complete mystery to me. Other than Karacan, the only player he's remotely looked decent with is Akpan. And both of those partnerships have only flourished in a handful of games.
Clarke's got his work cut out.

Ian Royal In midfield
Norwood & Akpan - yes.

Have you been smoking crack

I can't think of a worse central-midfield partnership we could possibly come up with. Norwood is a timid pussy whose ability to stroke the ball sideways tidily and take a floaty corner can only be accomodated in a 3-man central midfield. Akpan.....yeah I can't think of any circumstance in which I'd particularly enjoy having him in our side.

It worked surprisingly well earlier in the season.

Assume we need to play 4-4-2

Who stays and goes from last night?

Federici: yes he made a mistake but would be counterproductive to drop
Kelly: One of the better performers, has to stay.
Obita: Not a great evening but should stay in the interests of stability
Pearce: Stays
Chalobah: Has to go from central defence. Should he move to midfield? In my opinion he should be rested, as he has faded badly in lots of games and has started every game since he joined, a big ask for a young player who has not been playing regularly. Replace with Cooper (or preferably Hector if fit)

McLeary: Atrocious, has to be dropped. I don't think he is anywhere near back to full fitness yet, which in turn is affecting his confidence and his overall play. Replace with Mackie who although limited at least will always put in a shift.
Williams: Stay
Norwood: I would replace with Kuhl
Robson-Kanu: great game at Derby - how can he be helped to be more consistent? A run in the team might help...

Cox: I would keep for his link up play and hard worlk
Pogrebnyak: Maybe swap for the Yak just to try something different.

Fed

Kelly / Pearce / Cooper / Obita

Mackie / Williams / Kuhl / Robson-Kanu

Cox / Yak

Kelly for Gunter, Cooper for Hector, Norwood for Guthrie if needed

I like Chalobah but with the season as it is, we might as well play one of our own, be it Kuhl, Guthrie (who I rate the highest) or Norwood.

Well, I'll be Martin Keown's Uncle.....this pairing started in three wins this season, Fulham, Millwall, Blackpool.

Lets go with that partnership then, genuinely we are desperate.

Have you got any of that crack left? Its so moreish.

We need to man up down there.
Show some fight.
They are a strong team but fair.
Need to get stuck in from the first whistle unlike last night.

I'd like to see us try a 4312 with McCleary up front (where he moved to in a couple of games under Adkins and looked dangerous). Or perhaps HRK up front instead of him.

Federici
Kelly Pearce Hector/Cooper Obita
Williams Akpan Norwood
Cox
McCleary Pogrebynak
