F.A Cup Journey for Charity

by double d » 08 Jul 2015 20:52

Hello

The company I work for has just announced a new charity partnership and I have come up with an idea for sponsorship (not original by any means), but to go on an F.A Cup journey and document it via a blog on their homepage, to which they have agreed. I wanted to do this anyway for a laugh but thought I may aswell involve the new chosen charity and raise funds for Scope.

I wanted to obviously start at the extra preliminary round on 14th August, but my pesky Fiance just had to have a birthday on that day and I had booked a trip to Brussels ages ago for then, so will start on 26th August in the Preliminary round. I need to choose a local game and obviously watch it and whoever wins watch them and so on until (hopefully) the final (you know how it works).

I am just wondering if I set up a Virgin Giving page and Go-Fund-Me page if anybody would be as kind enough to donate to me and follow me and my blog (that I will be writing).

Anybody is willing to join!

Thanks in advance

I am tempted to do something like this myself - where were you planning to start?

Hi mate. I was going to plan on starting at Croydon FC actually, as that is my local team, however my holiday has scuppered that idea! I will most likely have to decide after the 15th August as I will need to find a local team to Berkshire who are also playing somebody not so far away (want to try and minimize my travel expenses in the first few rounds until the thing starts proper). Have not really looked yet but have time.

Anybody is more then welcome to join along obviously, will make it cheaper/more enjoyable.

There's a few not too distant options 29th August:

Binfield or Westfield v Shortwood United
Reading Town or Chertsey Town v Ascot United or Kidlington
Badshot Lea or Camberley Town v Fleet Town
Abingdon United v Royal Wootton Bassett Town or Bracknell Town (which is also fixture number 106  )
Cove or Shrivenham v North Leigh
Egham Town v Slimbridge
Chinnor or Hartley & Wintney v Banbury United
Hook Norton or Frimley Green v Burnham

Looking at the preliminary rounds, there are a number of possibilities.

Reading Town vs Chertsey Town, Sat 15th August seems like a viable option.

Did you ever read Calvin Wade's book 'Another Saturday and Sweet FA'? He did the same thing a couple of years ago. Decent read.

Annoyingly I am on holiday till the 16th! Which i am super mad about as I wanted to do right from the start, but I suppose next best thing is starting at the Preliminary round on 26th. It still counts in my eyes!

Where is Chertsey? I like the idea of the Reading Town fixture/Binfield or Badshot/Camberly game.

Think I will start thinking about this properly next week and do a charity page, maybe round up some others if they want and see where it goes from there! It would make it a whole lot more interesting/cheaper and could meet up new people for a few drinks during Saturdays! Will be a nice different way to spend a Saturday!

Oof, fallen at the first hurdle.

Nice idea though, may give it a go myself one day (holiday plans permitting)

When I met Southsaxon at Wembley who did it last year, he said that over the course of the year it had cost him more with tickets and travelling than a Season ticket at Brighton would have cost him so its not cheap. He did have to go to Bradford for a few rounds though.

That is my fear. I need to really hope it won't cost a lot! But I don't mind, travel would hopefully be fine and I could possibly get something sorted for that another way. A go Fund me page for example may do the trick.

That is fine. I am still going to do it. Extra preliminary round is "extra and in on holiday so can't help that.

I get the feeling that this sort of thing is a bit on vogue at the moment. Good for non league clubs as they'll all get a few extra tickets sold but very few will stick it out.

That's why I'm hoping the whole charity thing will snowball because more incentive to do it. I need to somehow drum up loads of interest and the like etc. Then it gives incentive to keep going.

Hope to get this properly rolling next week or the week after. Thinking first game will be the reading town one.
