Squad Numbers

by howser » 02 Aug 2015 13:58

With the first League match now only 6 days away, our squad numbers should be announced pretty soon, I would think, presumably they have to be with the league at set time before the season officially kicks off, does anyone know ?

Certainly being announced later than usual. Hope Hector isn't wearing 8...

They must have already submitted them to the FL- last year they had to do that in July.

I suppose the club will release them this week.

no number 4 assuming this might be for the guy incoming from Espanyol, Bond number 1 obviously tells you everything about who's going to be between the sticks. taylor 3 & Obita 11? what was obita's number last year? anything to read into that?

Thought that. Didn't the club state that Pog was having 9 this year.

Edit: It was the Daily Fail who quoted him saying it.

Because the numbers are meaningless?

So, presuming they both sign, Fernandez 4, Hurtado 14?

Not saying Bond won't be first choice, but wouldn't take that as gospel based only on squad numbers - Al Habsi wore 26 at previous clubs where he was first choice and there's various other clubs where the guy with number 1 on his shirt has been a bench warmer at best. Bond starting against Espanyol was probably the biggest indicator, though, so you're probably right.

Obita was 11 last season and Stephen Kelly was number 3. I'm hoping no number 4 indicates a new arrival still to come in but no guarantees there either.

8 Michael Hector

:x
9 Hal Robson-Kanu

:x
31 Simon Cox

Given a number amongst the kids? More evidence that he's not wanted.

Hopefully we sell Hector next summer so we can give #8 to a midfielder, Tshibola probably.

Obviously the numbers are pretty irrelevant but it's interesting to see that Cox has lost the 10 shirt to Sa (assuming he didn't beg for the 31 for superstitious reasons).

As much as it doesn't matter I don't like Hector taking the 8 shirt.

Young goalkeeper Jonathan Bond takes the number 1 jersey after his summer arrival, while fellow shot-stopper Ali Al-Habsi – who also arrived this summer – takes shirt number 26, as he did at Bolton and Wigan previously. This season Simon Cox has also opted for a number which he wore at previous clubs Swindon and West Brom – 31 – while striker Orlando Sa will sport the number 10 for the new campaign after his arrival from Legia Warsaw, and will wear the full name ‘Orlando Sa’ on the reverse of his shirt.

Hate squad numbers, 1 to 11 then subs up to how ever many are allowed this season.

5 should be enough imho

Maybe the club have alot of HRK 9 merchandise unsold from last season?

I'm a traditionalist, I want to see 9 on the shirt of a striker.

Also, I don't agree with every player in the squad getting a number - I doubt we will sell may Hyam 45 shirts this season, so why not give them a lower number shirt when they break into the squad instead of lumbering them with a high number now that could be demotivating as it suggests they are way down the pecking, which may be true bit it isn't very motivating know that.

That last paragraph is the ramblings of someone who has never watched, experienced or even thought about football before. Utterly clueless.
