We're in the process of agreeing the worst. Now, who was the best?

In my mind there's only 2 serious contenders, Death and Hislop and I'm too young to remember Death in his prime. I just seem to remember Hislop make the extraordinary look routine week in, week out

Shaka made is cool for blacks to be keepers - up until then, the English league never really had any

Death, Hislop and Hanhnemann were equally good at controlling the penalty area, making reflex saves, risk getting kicked, catching the ball rather than just pushing it away to another attacker, and making fewer errors than others like Feds, McCarthy, Bond etc.

I voted Marcus because I didn't see Steve Death or Shaka play, and Marcus was a key part of the 106 side - without him I reckon we'd have hit around 100 points.

Shaka.

He was my hero as a very young lad, and once even bought me a Coke and took some time to speak to me in the players' bar.

I don't really remember it as I was only about 5 at the time, but my dad has always said how much he was moved by Shaka's insistence to be nice to me, for no particular reason.

I'll even front up and say that I started to support Newcastle (alongside Reading, it must be added) when Shaka moved there. I came to my senses a couple of years later, though, and donated all my Newcastle shirts to charity.

He was also a superb 'keeper and made the difficult stuff look pretty easy.

Steve Death, mostly based on my age. Great shot stopper.

I've gone for Hahnemann, but I think the best solution is to have a joint first place for him Shaka and Death.

Seen them all and Hislop the best overall. Marcus best for controlling the area but one goalkeeper from way back was the best shot stopper. His name was Arthur Wilkie.

Seen 'em all too since mid-60s. I voted Shaka.

Loved Deathie but he did make many more howlers than Shaka - and for his two seasons Shaka was truly brilliant and made a real difference.

Statistically of course the answer is Trevor Senior - 4 games 0 goals conceded . Wilkie best known as a scoring keeper - he got 2 in one match.

His last ever appearance for the club is the stuff of legend. If a film were made of his career, it would be edited out for being too far fetched.

I'm not old enough to remember anyone pre Phil Whitehead

I think McCarthy was probably our best in my time based on raw talent, but Hahnemann was pretty solid too and is also a legend.

Can you add Steve Francis?
He's obviously not as good as Shaka, but he was a great keeper and in my mind one of the best players ever to have made a career almost entirely in the lower leagues.

Steve Death, mostly based on my age. Great shot stopper.

He was, quite frankly, a legend amongst the Dads of us 40-somethings. Up there with Friday and Senior.

Hahnemann for me based on games seen live.

I'm sure my dad and uncles will say Hislop and I'm sure my grandad will say Death.

Seems to be the way with these things.
