What Is Your Favoured Formation???

by loyalroyal4life » 30 Dec 2015 09:21

Still early days for Brian, although he must have an idea of best way to set up and with which players out of the current squad he has. How would you set up and with who?

For me it's 4-3-3

Bond
Gunter Ferdinand Mcshane Taylor
Williams Norwood Tshibola
Mcleary Sa Blackman

Subs: Quinn, Piazon, Vydra, HRK, Cooper, Al Habsi, John

I'm an old fart who still loves 4-4-2 with a big man, little man combo up front and pace on the wings.

4-4-2 with the full backs getting forward.

I like the trailing by a goal with 10 minutes to go formation. 2-3-5. That's always fun.

One that wins.

With this particular reading it has to be the 4-3-3.

With the options we have at centre mid it's inevitable someone will miss out (unless we were playing the 4-4-2 at the start of the season with all 4) but that's the strongest side for me. It is also the most balanced, we have the defensive physicality of Tish, the work rate of Quinn and the calmness/vision of Norwood. All of which can play ofc. Williams is most similar to Quinn but I just feel the latter has a cooler head, a better footballing brain, and technically superior in most aspects.

Williams would be a fantastic sub to bring on with his energy. Might seem harsh as his performances have certainly warranted a starting place, but football isn't a game for sentimentality and I feel, in that set up, he's the one to miss out.

I'm now not fussed. Quinn can play on the left, although not really as a traditional winger, more a wide midfielder, so 4-4-2 is a better option with McCleary on the right. But McCleary or Vydra could both play the Right Forward roll with Piazon or HRK on the left and Norwood, Williams/Tish and Quinn in midfield.

Too many oxf*rd experts listening to too many Shearers and Keowns sitting on a pile of goose feathers. There is no 442. 33211 , it's make believe for the pundits'bank balances.

Are you feeling ok? There are formations, not sure if you've realised but players have positions which then creates a formation..

Always in two minds whether to play for this league or have one eye on the Prem. Just not that confident a two man midfield could cope in the league above so swayed by the notion of developing something around a three man midfield while we can.

That said I quite like wingers so maybe a 4-5-1 kinda deal. But that would probably require the right front man which we always seem to lack.

4-3-3 with an inside forward on one side and a winger on the other? Or is that just a bit Football Manager?

It's definitely 3 men in centre however else the rest of the team lines up, Norwood and Williams need a third man to clean up after them.

Yeah. Wouldn't like to leave either of them out either.

Quin + Norwood or Williams as a midfield two would be better but as a little club the only way we can compete with bigger boys is to get that extra body in midfield. Not keen on a back three, and I like a bit of width to my team so I guess the best option in my opinion is to take that man out of the forwards.

other option, 4-4-2 diamond with an AM and DM. No width though, unless you have some quick feet up front

or the extra time corner formation of 0-0-11 as the goalkeeper comes up field.

4-4-2 has been my favored formation to watch Reading play with attacking fallbacks and wingers - 106 year being the prime example.
