The team 2016.

by Forbushman » 16 Oct 2016 21:00

Where the hell would this squad be with a decent, fox-in-the-box, striker? We have 65% possesion most matches, vast attempts to cross the ball or attack through the middle and every chance is currently being screwed. Kermogant is doing his best and deserves no cr*p, he is at the end of his career, has been asked to do something not natural to him and he is trying as everyone can see - but he is not succeeding.

With a decent striker, I believe we would currently be very comfortably in the top 6.

What we need is someone that's scored a hat-trick at Wembley

Any ideas?????

We'd be where Aston Villa are, with their multimillion pound set of strikers.

Don't think Sir Geoff Hurst is the answer.

Thing is though, of all the decent strikers in the Championship over the past few years, how many have been playing up top on their own?

4-3-3 has its positives, but I think the central striker has it pretty tough, and I don't think their main role is to score goals

I quick glance at the top scorers in the league last season shows Andre Gray (up top with Vokes), McCormack (with Dembele), Hernandez (usually Akpom) were the only players to hit 20 goals, and none of those were playing as part of a forward 3

The season before (I notice a certain Mr Kermogant got 15) was Deeney & Ighalo at their best, whilst Callum Wilson scored 20 playing alongside our Yann

Kermogant seems to be getting judged entirely on the goals he scores, which is pretty harsh I think. He does a lot for the team and I think it's time people like Beerens or McCleary either side of him step up (I posted the other day how Beerens is 2nd in the league at giving the ball away)

And besides, are there any players playing in Yann's position who would get the goals we're all demanding?

The days of two strikers getting 20 goals seems so long ago
