Reading FC Poppy Pin Badge

by John Smith » 19 Oct 2016 10:51

Couldn't find a suitable topic for this, but I'm absolutely desperately looking for this:

I don't come up Hurst Way to home games but is the badge vendor still there? I've searched eBay and independent retailers to no avail... Any advice?

There is one on E bay, try searching for Reading FC badges.

I once had a poppy seller refuse to sell me one because I had a southern Irish accent. Grand-uncle (also from the South) died in action in WWII? Who cares....

I might get a lapel pin, would probably pay for itself over 2 remembrance Sundays.

I'd rather buy mine from the RBL so that the money goes to support the charity, unless there's a guarantee that these do, I wouldn't get one

If you want to wear one then that's your decision, but everyone else is free to make up their own mind.

This. I was going to ask myself if the prospective seller could give a guarantee how much of the sale price would go to the RBL. Raising money for them is the entire purpose of the selling and wearing of the red poppies after all.

Personally, I think it is a great looking thing.

Would that be the thing that was worn by the RFC players went they to Ypres a few years ago?

Buy it, wear it. (I have something similar, but with my Regimental badge on it)....but it's just a badge.

Drop a fiver in the box each year .......regardless of what you wear .......(or in the case of SCIAG don't prefer to wear)

Love it too, but I can sympathise with Lewes Royal's point.

I suppose the safest thing to do is buy one and then put a fiver in a RBL tin when you come across one.

But then you legitimise the pikies that produce this unlicensed tat.

If you're the sort to buy half and half scarves on the A33 then yeah, go for it

It's the worst type of "poppy as a fashion accessory" behaviour

In fact why not add 1916 too, after all the Somme dead are so much more worthy...

My poppy will be an RBL poppy, and I'll wear it with pride

So why post an oxymoronic statement?

Give a fiver instead

Because you need to be punished for the oxymoron you created

You can choose where the fiver goes, it can even go to your own pocket, thus creating another oxymoron in which you give something to yourself.
