Ramadan

by Half Horse » 30 May 2017 12:09

I wonder if Ali Al Habsi was fasting yesterday as we are currently in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. If he was he will have not eaten or drunk anything since daybreak and I wonder if that affected his performance? Would he have got closer to any of the penalties? Probably not.

If Ali Al Habsi had a shocker and we were leaking goals then maybe this would be something that the manager should have taken into account when selecting his starting lineup and during the game when there was an opportunity to make a substitution.

He may not have had much to do, but a clean sheet and saving one penalty out of 5 is a good performance from a goalkeeper.

Came agonisingly close to the fifth too.

He hasn't changed his religion part way through his career, so I am sure learned long ago how best to manage what might appear to many to be two conflicting demands.

He may well have not fasted yesterday. There are allowances for if you are sick, or a working environment means you need to hydrate or eat.

Where did you get that last bit from Bobby? Because Islam spread from, you know, the middle east which is one big environment where you have to hydrate - and they still keep the fast.

The normal exceptions are the sick, the travelling, menstruating and pregnant women, and the elderly.

Al Habsi could argue that he was "travelling" yesterday, as he wasn't playing a home game - but there's no Koranic exception for your working environment.

It's pretty routine for Muslim sportsmen and women to fast during Ramadan.
I'm pretty sure Ali would have been fasting and will know exactly how to manage his body.

We can certainly rule out that he was either pregnant or menstruating in my view.

The convention if you miss the start of your fast on any day is to make a contribution to charity.

Don't know what Al Habsi does but I know that Mo Farah makes a charitable contribution and then fasts out of competition.

It's not Al Habsi that i'm pissed off with, it the Reading taxi drivers that tried to charge 1 1/2 fare for a ride claiming it was a Bank Holiday. Listen my greedy taxi driving friends, those days are gone, Bank holiday is now a normal working day for a lot of people. Had you been so exploitive and charged a normal fare then i imagine you would have earnt a lot yesterday, but as it was, i, along with others, gave you a wide birth, so bollops to you all.
Reading corporation was fine at £2.

You are free to skip fasting days and just do them at a later during shawwal. It's pretty commonplace to do that.

So no Koranic irrigation?
