Opposition & boring Reading

by madstadblues » 25 Nov 2017 19:38

I hear lots of stuff about Reading being boring which I totally disagree with (this season). Anybody who understands football will see it is totally down to how the opposition set themselves up to counter our tactics that makes us look boring. We did exactly the same in the PL against Manchester United in 2007 in when Kitson got sent off.

In my opinion we are on a journey to better things although it can be a bit painful sometimes - to better things. The problem is the most vocal fans have no idea and are a victim of FIFA, ''I want it now success' and not experiencing where we have actually come from in the last 20 years ( and can't be arsed to get behind the team).

Opposition fans only think it's boring because their team doesn't have the ball.

We really do miss a prime McCleary in my opinion. Barrow and Aluko are good but their end product has made the threat provided nearly non existent, but no one ever doubted McCleary’s end product. Just think we’ve never been the same since he fizzled out in December, ever since then we just looked predictable but got away with it as managers didn’t take us seriously all season

it is true that fans of the previous twenty years have been ( by and largely) spoilt, compared to (us) fans of the twenty years previous to those.

Like you, I have no liking of the Premier League take-it-all “business plan”

.......but the game has evolved....and this is what we’ve got.......it’s sh1t I know....but this is what we’ve bought into.

Make the best of it when you can

Maybe some truth in that re: McCleary.

He did carry us a bit in an attacking sense first half of last year and scored plenty

Half of his goals were pen rebounds weren't they?

I think there's a good reason we're not scoring many first half goals, and it's because we're not really showing any intent to do so. I think it's two games in a row we've passed ourselves back to the keeper and into trouble almost from the off.

It is not just down to the opposition parking the bus our style of play is too slow and predictable and we never look to play the ball forward quickly. It is becoming frustrating to watch us pass the ball around with no urgency which makes for dull games and allows for the opposition to recover and get back into shape.
Too many throw ins and free kicks are played sideways or backwards which loses any attacking momentum we could have.
It is mostly down to Stams tactics why most games our lacking in entertainment it was the same last season but we were getting wins then.

Making friends again in league one

Such a boring, pointless club. State of them.

Well I've just watched Millwall vs reading cup game, and I've got to say Millwall's defending was as comical as vales against Barnsley

In fairness, Port Vale may be the absolute highlight of interest locally.

They obviously haven't been paying attention if they think Reading are boring after this summer.
