Reading close to Pelé deal
Nice-Matin report that Championship side Reading are closing in on a deal to sign 27-year-old Portuguese midfielder Pelé from AS Monaco.

Finer details are currently unknown, with sources telling Get French Football News that the Ligue 1 side have received both permanent and loan with option to buy proposals for the player this summer.

Looks useful, had a very good season for Rio, followed by a poor one for Thierry Henry’s Monaco last year

Statistically his loan at Forest didn’t look great, but seemed to make a reasonable impression according to the press. Good at breaking up play and a muscular presence apparently

Neither did Baker at Boro and Leeds, Ejaria at Sunderland and Rangers, nor Miazga at Nantes.

He plays in a position we desperately need to fill and clearly has some quality given Monaco were willing to pay a reasonable fee. Hopefully he could flourish under Gomes.

Would be Reading’s first Guinea-Bissau international.

Never really settled anywhere and Monaco obviously already looking to offload after reportedly spending €10m on him last summer (apparently €5m to Ave and €5m to Benfica) so doesn’t sound terribly encouraging but then their manager, Jardim, left Monaco a few months after so who knows.

He seems to have been most effective in his short spell at Rio Ave (just missed JG) which earned the move to Monaco.

As yet no mention in local media of this one.
