Can I just add to this by stating that not all Alf Garnetts live in the East End or are even, in fact, male?
On the tube back, it was naturally very crowded and we were stood next to a group of 4 pissed up Reading - two older men and two lads of about 15 - and two young women who had nothing to do with the football at all.
Several stops down the line, two African women got on, in full "Sunday" dress and with a suitcase each. One of them was clearly mentally handicapped and was being guided by the other. As they got on, the two older Reading men laughed out loud and started whistling " Camptown Races" and nudging the younger lads to take note. This continued throughout the journey although the women were only on for two or three stops before they got off at Whitechapel, whereupon the "ringleader" of the group loudly declared "ooh, look, Whitetown".
Meanwhile, the younger African woman had had to squeeze in next to the two women, who spent their time looking up and down disdainfully at the African women and passing whispered comments which caused each other to shriek with laughter. After they had got off, these two munters started to converse louder and louder, along the lines of "I don't get it? What was she? Some kind of witch? I thought she was going to turn me orange" etc etc.
Fcuking disgusting behaviour - makes you feel proud to be part of the human race, doesn't it?
