One goal leads.

by Dirk Gently » 03 Oct 2006 17:24

In our 7 matches so far, we've been hanging on to a one-goal lead for a total of 298 minutes - that's 47% of the total of 630 minutes (excluding injury time.)

I don't think my nerves can stand this much longer!

hey at least we're getting the results, although i do agree alot of Reading more faint hearted fans will probably be seeking medical advice by the end of the season at this rate.

Also noteworthy that we've scored in the first five minutes in three of our four away games, which inevitably leads to more hanging-on time!

Indeedy, and if it keeps up like this, they should name the end-of-season DVD Early Lightnin' Outta Berkshire.

As a general matter, I too detest the stressful experience of a one-goal lead...but for whatever reason, I don't feel the same old customary sense of dread where RFC are involved.

I'm not worried by one goal leads. We look brilliant at the back, and if we keep scoring then why not just sit back and play counter attacking football?

Granted we are facing tougher opposition these days, but teams we need to beat have not troubled us (West Ham, Man City).

Not only have we scored early in our games, we have yet to score after the hour mark. Lita's against Boro on the opening day (55th min, or there about) being our latest goal so far this season.

Probably a reflection of how much we have been settling for our lead most of the 2nd half, but a strange stat none the less.

The fact that we have yet to score inside of 7 seconds suggests to me we have a very relaxed attitude.

Fatigue most likely, our strikers, midfielders and wingers have to do a lot more tracking back than last season, especialy after scoring in first few minutes which we seem to like to do!

i would actually have to guess it is more settling for the lead actually than fatigue. coppell gets subs in (almost always gunnarsson and long) relatively quickly in the second half, and the strikers usually arent making the number of runs that would lead to fatigue
