Question on Chelsea game....

by xtreme rebel » 16 Oct 2006 09:36

Ok, correct me if I have any of the details wrong but.....

In injury time of Saturday's game, Sonko and Cudicini collided. The ball was headed towards goal by Shorey and cleared off the line by Drogba and booted up field. The referee then blew his whistle because Cudicini was in trouble and hence he stopped play.

After the long treatment for Cudicini, John Terry went on goal. Terry's first duty was to kick the ball out of his hands and up the field.

Now...

1) If the referee stopped play then surely the ball should have been given back to Reading as Reading were in possession?

or

2) If the referee gave a free kick for a foul on Sonko by Cudicini, how can Terry take the free-kick out of his hands?

Yes - drop ball, and we just let Terry keep it

Why? Didn't Reading have possession after Drogba cleared it?

The ref stopped play before the ball came down from Terry's kick. Therefore the fair decision was to let Terry have the ball back.

Personally, I wanted to see a contested drop ball on the Chelsea 6 yard area.........I'm sure that wouldn't have been the cause of any potential problems whatsoever.............

with the entire chelsea team stood on the goa line, then i would love to have won the drop by belting the ball at the line, picked up a pen when it hits one of their arms, and score from that. oh... and propbably sent someone off for deliberate handball.
