Sonko Vs Anelka

by Half Man Half Biscuit » 02 Dec 2006 19:03

No bloody contest

SUPER-SOLID-SONKO

Meanwhile a footnote from the BBC.
Reading, in their first season in top-flight football, are sixth, outside a Champions League berth by virtue of only goal difference

Had Anelka in his pocket the whole game :D

Should make somebody from the French national team sit up and take notice.

This game of all games required big performances from Sonks and Ivar and they both delivered.

One fantastic clearance from Sonks, and most of the game he was a rock. So much so that Anelka decided to drop to midfield to get away from him :D

My opinion of Ivar is definatly changing, for the better obviously. I was worried at the start of the year that he wouldn't be able to make the step up, but my god! He has and he has done it well! :D . Also big congrats to Sonko after a shakey few games he is back to his best, possibly the presance of Mr Mutry has a influence?

All the great teams start with a clean sheet and keep it - The Royals are the newest members of that particular (elite) club.

Sonks & Ivar must have headaches tonight. When Sonko's career is over we can only hope he won't have brain damage, as some of his headers must have gone 30 or 40 yards today.

It was very impressive to see Sonko track Anelka, stay on his feet and force Anelka effectively out of the game.

Sonks and Ingi are a mean machine but I wouldnt say no to Matty Upson reuniting with us alongside Sonko with Ingi being quality CD cover and jockying with Sid/Harps/Gunnar for the midfield slots.

Sonko made a top class player look average.

Whilst they all did well, our defence did look a bit shakey against the long throws. They certainly need to get some more practice in before next week when we come up against those cheating Watford scum with their towels.

Sonko's came into the bar in the hotel after the game and he signed autographs for everyone who asked and was playing high 5's with the kids. The guy is truly a gent of the first class, it was so refreshing watching how he behaved and always had a smile on his face. There are a few others who could learn off him and realise that fans are important, not only a fantastic player but a decent honest person.

I thought Sonko did o.k in the air against Anelka but that is not Anelka's game and on the two occasions when he took Sonko on for speed he left Sonko trailing.
When Sonko came up against Kevin Davies in the air Davies beat him on almost every occasion.
What Sonko did really well was to react quickly to his own mistakes,e.g his miskick in the first-half which he quickly recovered from and wellied away.

What a fantastic job Allardyce has done with Davies-remember what a forlorn case he looked when he played against us for Millwall on loan.
With Davies out of contract at the end of this season and Sam looking to sign Beattie I would like us to get Davies as the alternative striker option with the ongoing doubts about Kitson's fitness.
BTW I'm not criticising Sonko I just don't see that he was as immense yesterday as some posters seem to think.

The way Bolton played in the first half with their "hoof" tactics made it easy for Sonko. They played more along the floor in the second half but I still think Sonko had a fantastic game. I thought, especially after Boro and Villa, that Sonko might have a tough time this year but he has been absolutely astonishing this season and I can't give him enough credit - fantastic.

Also, I think Murty has been outstanding this season. Because he's not the quickest in the world I thought he may get found out this season up against left-wingers but he's been superb this season and was no surprise we started winning again when he came back.

Also, with the fact we played so well last year, I've seen that some players this year are putting in better performances this year than last year even with the greater talent of the oppostition. Look at Murty, Ivar, Shorey, Sidwell, Oster and Hunt I think this year have played better than they did last year.
