Reason for yesterdays loss...

by Sharpy » 17 Dec 2006 12:06

.....is in the 2nd half we didnt get a single cross in!!!

1st half was as it should be, spreading play and hunt/little getting to the corners and whipping balls in for attackers/midfielders to get onto.

where was this in the 2nd half? we just hoofed it, no composure and ball control was distinctly lacking. little recieved no decent ball so was unable to get crosses in and the midfield just folded.

you cant win a game in the premiership by just hoofing it upfield for doyle and seol to 'attempt' to do something with, you need to get it to the flanks at every oppurtunity.

Good point - during the first half I was commenting how dangerous we were looking from crosses/corners, etc... We were causing them all sorts of problems.

The reason we didn't get a cross is is because Blackburn had more of the ball and generally outplayed us 2nd half.

They were just better than us.

Never mind. Look out Everton I say.

I'd say the main reason was USA being beaten 5 times!

The fact that Seol and Doyle both tried to flick the same ball on in the air wasn't helping, it meant when they did win headers they were flicking it to noone. One should have gone for the header and the other should run so we might actually get the ball from it. Seol is pretty good in the air at times, Doyle should make runs off him then we might score more goals or keep the ball from flick ons.. or at least have a striker spare to close the opposition down.

The reason why Reading lost yesterday I felt was this.

Reading scored 1 goal

Blackburn scored 2 (legal) goals.

That was the main reason for the defeat IMO.

We had a bad day (half a day) at the office, end of.

The team are entitled to that once in a while.

I'd say three were legal, just one wasn't allowed.

why we lost

by lovetoscore » 17 Dec 2006 20:21

we lost because of a very poor second half performance. We were completely outclassed in midfield as Sid and Harper were non existent and so neither the wingers nor forwards could get in the game. Our passing was appaling and we didn't tackle. Yes we could do with a stronger forward alongside doyle but that wasn't the biggest problem

but in a performance/match analysis basis, we distinctly lacked in flank play and thus crosses meaning we had virtually no goal threat

OK I cant hold this in any longer the guilt is just too much. The reason we lost was because I never wore my lucky blue underpants.I hang my head in shame.

We have done well so far in Kitsons absence, however its now being to show. Pure effort and passion is beginning to flag both on and off the pitch and the early season excitement is no longer there. Souls early signing effort has gone, Doyle got to top of the scoring charts and was content with that. Arguements are breaking out all over the field, Doyle/Sidwell & Murty/Little. The players & crowd may believe they have already done enough to stay up and are content with that. New passion and urgency need to be injected otherwise it could be a long hard winter. Don't get me wrong I have loved our start but problems could be just around the corner if we don't pick up soon
