Back from the game (!)

by Dirk Gently » 06 Jan 2007 15:31

People will, or course - but you can't really complain at Styles's decision.

That pitch was unplayable and dangerous, and everything he'd been told reinfocred that decision.

But when the Met Office said it would rain for an hour and a half and the groundsman told him it would take an hour to drain what do you expect him to do?

If he'd ignored what the Met office said and a player had been injured he'd have been up in court.

Refs first consideration is safety and given info he had it was a proverbial no brainer to call it off. Styles not my favourite ref but full credit to explain decision etc.
Typical Michael fishesque prediction by Met office

felt sorry for the burnley fans who travelled down, its a long way back for them and then to come down again on tuesday evening.

as for us, styles was right becasue if the game had carried on and one of the players had been seriously injured then everyone would have been complaining about why he hadnt have called the game off!

just means my quiet night in on tuesday will be spent at mad stad instead :)

whats all this injury stuff, players were real men in the 70's, Percy Freeman was actually better in the rain, as was Sir Robin.

The rugby game is subject to a pitch inspection. If they do play on the pitch in that state tomorrow then it will probably be in a mess come the Blades game in a couple weeks :(

Styles was right if kitson or convey came on and got injured then we would of blamed it on not for calling it off.

I persume they were going to play.

think they will be as concerned about tuesday, plenty of time to get ready for Sheff Utd.

PS 3-0 down at home to Swansea, larf or what.

Convey was starting, Kitson was on the bench.

It was the right decision though - the pitch had puddles all over it.

Bollocks decision, it's been dry ever since he called it off!

Shit groundsmen as well, what the f*ck were they doing forking the pitch? All they needed to do was get a broom or pump the water out of the centre circle as the rest was playable!

If I was a Burnley fan I don't know who I'd be more angry at, that idiot Styles or our incompetent ground staff.

If the rugby is allowed to be played tomorrow then it'll be an absolute disgrace!

Took one look at the pitch when I arrived at 2.30 and knew the match would be called off...............it was unplayable...................end of.

If I'm p*ssed of about anything it's that I heard nothing about the match being in jeopardy until the tannoy announcement was made five minutes before kick off.

A Barnet supporting friend checked their clubs website at 1.30, knew the game was off and, therefore, didn't get drenched like 1000's of Reading fans.

IMHO, the Mad Stad pitch must have been beyond saving by at least 2 o'clock and many of us could have been saved a wasted, very wet, journey.
