positives

by Alan Partridge » 27 Feb 2007 23:35

Right take away the first ten minutes, (yeah i know they totally done us in and won the game in that time)

But i thought there was tons of positives out there tonight, Oster had a decent game although dallied around too long at times, Bryn was magical, Sidwell the boss in there, Lita sharp as knives and scored a brilliant goal, De La Cruz was absolutely superb, Little was magical and Bikey second half was world class.

I thought we totally bossed the second half and the last 10 of the 1st.

Coppell is the best manager around for me but he got it wrong and it was good to hear him acknowledge it afterwards. The formation we started with was farcical and sadly we paid the price, but the resiliance and guts shown tonight was admirable.

Was such a shame the start, gutted for Federici as he's been fantastic for us before tonight and he'll be distraught at the 1st goal.

I could write loads more, could go a bit more in depth but to be honest i can't be bothered. People would rather have a pop at one of our players than praise the valiant effort tonight.

Still well done lads another proud night for me.

It's very well being proud of the lads and all that, but there's no point in only starting to play once Frodo had slipped the net and put United 3-0 up. Game over.

Coppell's fault. soon as we changed we bossed it.

(not aimed at you mate) but some people need to take a serious reality check sometimes.

Can't disagree with any of that, we reduced the champoins elect to playing 10 men behind the ball and clearing it, only to have to face another wave of attack. Bikey was dominant in the second half and performances like that make his chances of getting a permanent contract far more likely. Gunnarsson was dominant in the middle and he and Sidwell bossed the midfield.

It was a shame about the goals that went in but Federici has made some superb saves in the games he has played in and I don't think there is a keeper anywhere who hasn't made a mistake. If Federici continues improving at the rate his is then he will be our first team keeper within 5 years.

Sure, but there's not very much point in deconstructing the merits of the latter 84 minutes without acknowledging the effect the scoreline had on the pattern of the game.

Don't get me wrong, I though United were clinging on by the end and would've fooking loved it if that shot had gone in.

Feel really proud to be a royals fan after the game tonight even though we made an exit out of the cup, but we can be proud that we never gave up and kept fighting all the way. I thought that Bryn was outstanding tonight and was so unlucky at the end as he really deserved a goal. de la also had a great game and bikey looks to be improving in every game that he plays which is a real possitive. Seol? whats happened to him, was amazing at the start of the season but has just fallen apart, tonight i though that he didn't even look bothered which i think is disgraceful to be honest. And he never has a chance now of getting back into the team ahead of blakey and oster, who both had good games tonight.

Sir Alex said (a) that's the best start he's ever seen from his team and (b) he was sure it was going to ET after we scored the second. That perfectly sums up the positives from this game for me.

Now please can we stop chasing two or three goal deficits?

Positives :
1) I missed the first 12 minutes ...
2) Coppell will ensure we don't start like that against Arsenal.
3) Good advert for RFC (and the FA cup) on the BBC.
4) No injuries.
5) The reserve team can now concentrate on the reserve league.
6) Kitson + Lita partnership back - just the way it should be.

Typical small team attitude! It's like watching England and praying they get a last minute equaliser.

Nothing like that. In REading's case, you know it might happen.

I'm proud of the way we fought back at them, but you have to ask questions of the first ten mins. I doubt had it been 0-0 for that period they would have let us play

At 3-0 up after 6 mins utd are just gonna sit back and soak it up. They bring Ronaldo and Rooney on with minutes to go. They had several chances to counter attack which would have totally finished the game off.

Biggest positive for me was going three down and not giving up. We showed tonight we can compete with one of the best teams in the world and not disgrace ourselves. Things can only get better.

That's about where I stand.

My mate texted and said "you battered us. But for a bizarre opening, it really could have been youre day"

I think he might be battered.
