Is Gunnarsson pushing for a first team start?

by readingbedding » 04 Mar 2007 12:36

I reckon he is.

He's had a great few weeks, and made our midfield more mobile yesterday.

definately Harper as disappeared recently, he needs a kick up the arse to show him no-one as a guaranteed starting place.
Oster for Hunt is another position to be looked at.

Yep, he fully deserves to take Harper's place - we looked much better with him there when he came on yesterday and Harper has been below par for a while now.

Also thought he was outstanding against Man Utd (both times). And he showed that with a bit of luck he will score some cracking goals. Would like to point out at this moment in time his priceless goals against Sheff Utd and Leeds last year.

To be fair to Harper, he's quality, but I'm seeing a lot more in Gunnarsson's play than just mobility, he's a decent footballer too and is probably in the form of his life.

That's why we have squad like this, if I was a first team player (apart from a few positions) I would be looking over my shoulder.

All good.

Its a shame Bryn isn't a few years younger, we would have one hell of a player, same with Little i think.

True about Little, but he played like a drain yesterday.

Nothing happened for him and he was getting very pissed off about it.

Hunt's been poor in his last few games and Oster's looked far better than him when coming on and against United midweek.

Yeah I'd go with that, be good to see how Oster handles a start, and we all know that Hunt would certainly be very annoyed about that, in the best possible way of course.

I thought Hunt did alright yesterday, Hunt never came on against Utd, was going to but then went back and sat down.

I thought he should have started yesterday. It's one thing to say that you are using your FA CUps to give these other players a shot and that they are your 'best' team for the game - but considering that I'm a bit disappointed that Sir STeve didn't then take their performances more seriously. Because he should have started IMO.

He was WOEFUL yesterday. He won about one or two tackles all game, never showed for Shorey and lost the ball countless times. He was the same up at Boro last week as well. He's had a good season overall but I'd bring Oster in for him at the moment as Oster deserves his chance and we look far better with him on the pitch then Hunt at the moment.

Both teams were below par, Hahnemann kept us in the match - too many of our players weren't on it, and our subs injected a bit more quality.
Training will be battle as no one player can afford to rest on their laurels.

Agree again readingbedding, I thought the only players who had decent games yesterday were Hahnmenann, Bikey and Lita besides the subs. I thought Hunt and Harper in particular were the worst, however, and they were both poor up at Boro as well so I'd drop them in favour of Gunnarsson and Oster.
