Is it time to give Oster a run?

by JC » 06 Mar 2007 00:49

I thought he transformed the team when he came on against Arsenal. Hunt seems to have gone off the boil a little recently so I feel Oster should start next time out

This Hunt "off the boil" run that stretches to a massive 2 games? Would be rather harsh to drop him.

I haven't been to either of the last two games but regardless, I fail to see why that would be harsh. If John Oster is playing as well as JC and others state, why shouldn't he be given a start against Pompey with Stephen Hunt on the bench? SSC is a fantastic people manager so I doubt it would cause ructions in the squad and perhaps it would let Hunt have a recharge of his batteries.

Oster has done well coming off the bench but some have gone slightly overboard, he was good and sloppy in equal measure during the United cup replay and was about to be taken off by Coppell until he upped his game at the end. Hunt has done consistently well this season starting games and shouldn't be dropped after two below par performances against difficult opposition (and he certainly wasn't the only one). At the very least he should retain his place for the Portsmouth match before being discarded for the latest flavour of the month.

Hunt was invisible on Saturday, I can't even remember him making any run or cross for us. He looked well out of his depth whereas Oster came on and put some good crosses in and gave Hoyte a lot of problems

agree, brynn gives more defensively, so will release sids more to bomb on

and oster has looked better than hunt for a few weeks now, and deserves his chance

Steve Coppell says he picks the players who are in form.

So that'll be John Oster and Bryn Gunnarsson, please.

I'm not sure about Hunt - he has been fantastic this year, and hasn't really had much chance to show that he's gone off the boil, as someone else pointed out - but Gunnarsson's performances recently have been better than anything I've seen from Harper all season.

Bryn to start for Harps, and Oster as early sub for Hunt or Little.

And by the way, they're all bloody legends anyway.

Apart from the fact that Hoyte didn't play.

Would be good to see, but how about Bryn & Sid in the centre, Doyler starting on the left wing, Kits & Leroy up front and both Oster & Hunt on the bench posed to come on for Blakey and if one of Kits, Leroy or Kevin runs out of steam?? :D

im always in favour of trying to give 'outer players' a run out and wish we'd do it more often. altho im not sure about the reason given for this one.
from what ive seen hunt has had a lesser couple of games, but only compared to the high standards hes set already this season. if youd of told me last season we'd go our first season in the prem without bobby id be scared. but hunt has more than filled the gap (admittedly for all the effort he put in running itd be nice if he put it into his final ball sometimes)

but yes... give the outer string some run outs...especially the youngsters for the seniors

I'd like to see him start. Hunt's done great but Oster deserves his go now.
Both Gunnar and Oster made a difference on Saturday.
Also Hunt comming off the bench get's the crowd up.
