Like you can just guess someone's IQ!
Who'd have thought I was a mad scientist locked in the depths of Area 51.

But anyway: Kitson most intelligent, Leroy the bad mother for thickest.

Don't know about the brightest but judging by some of the posts on this site No. 13 is often pretty dim.

Doyle - cleverest, or most sensible. (Based on interviews etc)

Runners up: Seol - sounds very sensible and may well be very clever. Kits says clever stuff but also a couple of stupid remarks.
Murty, Shorey, Hahneman, Ingi etc sound clever but haven't said much to prove it. Little - funniest by a mile and wit is related to intelligence (hence me being extremely funny).

Harper - least clever (according to Sidders who said "he's the stupidest person I've ever met", or something like that).

2 world wars, 1 world cup Harper - least clever (according to Sidders who said "he's the stupidest person I've ever met", or something like that).
I'm not sure I'd trust Sidwell's judgment in this matter.

I just love this totally meaningless speculation that can have no basis in fact other than on stereotpes, players appearances and snippets in the media.

Obviously the Irish boys are most challenged in that department (I even heard that as a youngster Hunty was running a junior marathon but decided to run back to the start when he got half way round as it was just too far).

Brightest spark in the box is Steve Coppell then David Kitson.......

I think Harper is bright enough to play on this! In other words, he ain't half as thick as people think.

It's not hard to meet up with players and work out which ones can hold a conversation.

My observation is certainly based on people I've met (and would say that on that basis Harps is certainly not stupid !)

Most of the squad come across as pretty switched on to behonest, which given Coppell's approach to squad building is no surprise.

Obviously it's not about one individual. It's the collective IQ of the squad that matters

What's being sensible got to do with IQ?

Thickest has to be one of the Irish lads. I'd say Hunt.

I would say generally speaking Coppell is probably the brightest manager in the English league that I can think of. OK Wenger is extremely clever when it comes to football and is highly articulate, particularly given that he is speaking in a second language. The difference is Coppell is a genuinely funny man and when he talks about football he often elaborates in a way which makes you realise that he does actually think outside the radar of football, football, football. From what I can tell it is all Wenger ever thinks about.

Historically, I guess the stats would point towards Eamonn Dunphy being Reading's most intelligent ever player if you are going to go on what players did after their footballing career. He was already a highly respected writer after the seminal It's Only A Game which I still think is the most revealing book about a footballer's life I've ever read and pisses all over whatshisname's from Charlton atrocity Left Foot Forward (which is one of the worst books I've ever read). Plus, Dunphy went on to become a highly respected journalist and writer in his own right.
