Doyle to start?

by Archie's penalty » 30 Mar 2007 18:24

I don't know if this is a Dodd but what do you reckon about starting Doyle after his two impressive appearances for the republic? I like Kitson but remember how well the Doyler did against Spurs in November. I think his midweek performance showed that he is back to the form that was so amazing in the first third of the season...

Think Lita is in too good form to drop him. Kitson on the other hand ain't. The only problem is the Lita/Doyle partnership doesn't really work. It's a canundrum. In line with Coppell's policy I'm pretty sure that it'll be Kitson and Lita with Doyle ready to put the cat amongst the pidgeons with a super-sub performance...

You could be right there. I think Doyle & Kitson work better. Doyle is always looking for Kitsons little flicks, whereas Lita might not be.

Are we limited to only 2 of them?

Why not drop Hunty (not a criticism of him, BTW), and play Kitson just behind the front two of Lita & Doyle?

Or even Kitson & Lita up front with Doyle out wide left?

Just a thought.....

Play a 4-3-3.

With Hunt, Harper and Little in the middle. Kitson, Doyle and Leroy up top.

I like your idea about playing Doyle wide left. He was really good against Chelsea out there. If one of Lita and Kitson does badly we can always bring Hunty on and move Doyle up front. Hunt was great as a sub for Ireland - maybe it would work again against Spurs?

Yes that would work with our rock solid defence wouldn't it away from home at free scoring Tottenham

Lita and Doyle

Kitson to come on with 20 mins left for either Lita or Doyle depending on performances........That's how I would do it anyway.

IMHO, Lita has the shirt, Kitson has displaced Long albeit without making a huge impression, and Doyler has to bide his time on the bench until he displaces Kitson or Lita.

Timing is everything, tough on Doyler but he needs to score as a sub to win his place back.

Spot on. I have a feeling Doyle may score off the bench this sunday.

Exactly. With Coppell's Reading it's never a case of what combination is best, as almost every time this is a difficult conundrum.

It's almost always the case that players keep their spots until they lose them or others win them.

This way he ensures we're playing the most in-form combination, not necessarily the best names on paper.

Lita is in incredible form and must start.

Coppell's policy also means that players know that if they put in a good performance when starting they will stay in the team. Completely different to Benitez's position.

As to Lita I saw the U-21s on saturday he does look incredibly confident and hungry - he really wanted to score. I hope he does against Spurs.

Although my prefered pairing would be Lita and Doyle. I think coppell will go with kitson and lita

We are playing away and must assume that Spurs will have more possession and possibly more free-kicks and corners.
Who (like Chelsea with Drogba)is our best striker in defensive situations to mark Dawson?
I'll give a clue-it's not Doyle or Lita.
The shape of our side is so much better with Kitson playing-I find it hard to believe that anyone would think of leaving him out.

Nothing to do with tactits, however...tomorrow is going to see Kitson fulfill his boyhood dream of playing on the "hallow turf" of White Hart Lane. It would take a brave man to drop Dave for this particular game!
