Sidwell Replacement - Who would you go for?

by Basingstoke Royal » 13 Apr 2007 10:34

Looks like the writing is on the wall now, and i dont think we have anyone in the current squad that can fill the void that Sidwell is going to leave.

Any ideas for summer signings to partner Harps in central midfield?

Flamini?
O'Neill?

KARACAN!!!!! 8)

Giles Barnes!

Derby wont want to lose the young midfielder but he looks a real prospect.

SpaceCruiser Sidwell hasn't left yet.

It's 99.9% certain he's leaving. get over it!

We need a young gunnarsson, Let harper attack with Gunnarsson Mk.2 covering.

Until Gunnarsson gets too old, play Gunnar in that position.

Done.

Steven Davis at Villa - young, half decent, similar style to Sidwell. Seemingly not wanted there.

Damian Francis - OK, might be turning into the next Nigel Quashie but he would do a very good job.

Mark Noble from relegated West Ham - very good, young player. Mayeb not the same mould as Sidwell, but half decent.

That's from the Premiership.

I'm sure others can recommend decent Championship/foreign players but I have a feeling a 'homegrown' player might fit straight into the team better.

From what I have heard the Watford fans don't rate him at all, and if we are reduced to signing players like him we might as just give in now.....

Basingstoke Royal Neil Danns?

Isn't he/wasn't he mainly a winger? Plus Brum fans have slated him for much of this season.

I agree, i'd like to see Gunnarsson there. Or maybe someone from the relegated clubs. Like Jagielka. Or Bangura.

Or Mullins.

A left winger for central midfield. And you criticise my suggestions? At least I am naming players who are central midfielders.

Out of suggestions so far my top three would be:

Flamini - unrealistic?

Barnes - Break the bank for him. I hope this close season we spend some money given the huge amounts received for staying up this year.

Davis - probably available for 2-3 million
