Steve Coppell

by Jon_rfc » 18 May 2007 14:22

With Coppell getting yet another award and rightly being called God by most reading fans i wondered how long it would take before people would start calling for him to go if everything suddenly started to go bad (hopefully not)

So when would u personally call for him to get the sack if we started to free fall (god hope not). Relegation from premiership?, Failure to get promotion from championship?, relegation from championship?, relegation from league 1?

Myself, I would like to see coppell stay here aslong as he wants to be here.

I would hope we would give him a season or two after relegation to try to rebuild.

I'm not sure he'd want to though. I get the feeling he'd probably resign and look for a new challenge if we got relegated.

There were enough people on here that signed up to the "don't sack SSC even if RFC get relegated thread" (sic) so I would imagine it would take a fair while (and possibly relegation back to mid table obscurity in the Championship).

Personally, if we ever reverted back to the style of play seen under TB2 - as I don't think that will ever happen under SSC, I can't see myself ever calling for his relegation.

No point even speculating, as it will not happen..Coppell IS god as you correctly sumized and relegation is not an option.

We're enjoying the most successful period in our history. Why is this even being discussed???

I promise you that if/when we start to slide in the Prem many will be calling for his head and will say it's "time for a change".

I say even we go down we must hold onto him and if I had my way I'd give him a contract for ten years and stick with him through thick and thin, relegation or not.

Well many of our fans are incredibly fickle, so on that basis, if we were to lose say the first 4 games or so of next season, then there would undoubtably be some mong calling for his head

Agreed.
It's why he only signs 1 year deals. If we went down I think he would offer his resignation.
If I was JM I'd probably not even open the envelope and just tell him to carry on though...

A poor cup run next season could spell the end for Coppell.

We want to win things, not just finish mid table in the league.

That's what I like to see - RFC fan in total "denial of reality" mode!

If he was an RFC fan you would have a fair point.

I think he would accept it in my opinion.

i reachen people will be call him to leave if we start to stay in premireship a few years and not progressing anything more but staying mid table.

I for 1 wont be because i would be happy to just stay mid table and getting used to the premireship life and then start to build and maybe looking for Europe.

Y'know, I was only thinking the other about how SDR seems to have disappeared off the board. I almost miss the old scrote with his sticky keys ...

Personally, I'd like to think that Reading fans would give Coppell plenty of time, were we to get relegated, to get us back up. His approach fits in so well with JM's 'brick-by-brick' ideas.
