Greatest RFC XI Debate - Forwards/Strikers

by SpaceCruiser » 14 Jun 2007 16:18

And now, the one that everybody's been waiting for, the strikers debate! I will let this run until Monday before we do a vote on it. This will work the same way as we did for the centre backs, i.e. 2 polls.

My nominations would be Jimmy Quinn and Jamie Cureton. Both scored 40 and 30 goals in one season respectively and they were good footballers too. No doubt everybody will have different ideas, should be interesting to see who else gets nominated.

Dave Kitson is worth a nomination. He was the only goal threat in the 04/05 season when the service/contribution of striking partners and wingers was shocking.

From my memory

Senior
Quinn
Cureton
Kitson
Doyle

from history

Friday

I also think this poll should be split into two in some way, with two different categories. Anyway.

I'll second (third?) nominations for

Cureton
Forster
Butler
Doyle
Kitson
Quinn

They're before my days of watching Reading but for their achievements alone Senior and Friday must be in there.

For me nominations would have to be:

Friday, Quinn, Morley, Kitson, Doyle, Senior and Cureton.

Forster doesn't quite make it for me. Mainly because I'm not convinced he would work in our formation.

Er, I don't really think the formation matters. Besides, he has played in a 4-4-2 formation successfully. Jeez, just because he played successfully in a 4-5-1 formation, doesn't mean he can only play that.

If we're picking who we think are the two best strikers, then Quinn and Senior.

If we're picking two players to play up front together, then Senior and one of Forster/Doyle.

Behindu nominated Ronnie Blackman, so you needn't worry too much.

If you've never seen him play - it's a bit tough to pick him.
