Leroy out for a while...

by The Insider » 07 Aug 2007 09:10

Bad news.

Mother in-law was at the Royal Berks yesterday, and in 'hobbled' Leroy Lita on crutches. Apparently he looked in severe pain, and was being scheduled for an immediate scan.

I guess we'll wait to hear confirmation on the official website, but it looks likely we'll be without him for a while.

According to the EP, he injured himself stretching in bed - is probably a trapped or detached nerve. Could well miss Sunday but not overly serious though he found it hard to walk yesterday.

Bed can be a dangerous place.

Lita doubt for trip to champs
LEROY LITA faces a race against time to be fit for Reading’s Premier League opener against Manchester United after suffering a freak injury in bed.

The England Under-21 international striker was unable to train yesterday after damaging a muscle while stretching and he is now a doubt for Sunday’s trip to Old Trafford (live on Sky Sports 1, 4pm kick-off).

Royals’ boss Steve Coppell told the Evening Post: “Leroy is in a great deal of pain. He woke up and stretched while in bed and he has done something to his leg.

“It is not an injury that should be ridiculed or made light of.

“We don’t know what happened exactly. It looks to be a problem with a nerve. Maybe he has displaced one, but he could hardly walk yesterday and had to sit out training.

“It came on so dramatically that we are just hoping it goes away as quickly.â€

A trapped nerve I can understand and I know how painful it can be. But how do you detatch a nerve? It sounds incredibly painful.

Sounds potentially bad, may be a disc problem in his back causing pressure on his sciatic nerve. Hope not.

offical text service says "...picked up a nerve injury and will be monitored over the coming days. He was unable to train on Monday and will be looked at ahead of the Utd game" doesnt sound too bad :?

Hopefully he will be fit for Chelsea - caused them lots of problems at Stamford Bridge last season. I think we'll go with one up front on Sunday (maybe Kitson with Doyle playing right wing), so shouldn't be a problem for that match.

Agreed, but if he can't get baack for the Mancs game then there is a chance for either Kits or Long to torment the Mancs defenders....

It'll be 4-4-1-1 with Kitson up front to hold the ball up, and Doyle playing "in the hole".

Not the ideal thing to happen this week, but maybe it'll give us a chance to prove we can beat the CHARITY Shield holders without our top striker? And I'm certainly not making light of his injury, but the suspicions of a 21 year old "stretching in bed?" If he stretched hard enough to detach something, he undoubtedly had some help with leverage.

Maybe Leroy can take the pitch all hopped up on percocet? THAT would be entertaining...
