Would like to see him get a chance soon if he continues to flourish like this. Could save the club some money if they show the b******s to play him.

So the reserve league looks like being competitive again this year !!

Anyone else think our reserves should have entered the Intertoto cup ?

They'll get plenty of action in the League and FA Cup this season.

Shows our strength at a young level (or Brums weakness)

Our team tonight was:

Andersen

Kelly
Golbourne
P Cox
Pearce (c)

Karacan
Sigurdsson
Henry
Bozanic

Church
S Cox

So only 2 players with first team experience.

Pearce, Cox and Goldbourne ?

Not a lot though !!

Does make it very encouraging that a genuine team of youngsters, most of whom have come through the raanks can go away and get aresult like that.

Perhaps we won;t have to wait too long for some to break through and just maybe Coppell had reasons for keeping his wallet shut.

Or maybe we just got lucky !

Birmingham put out a similarly youthful side, but it shows how far ahead our youngsters are.

Pearce should have been playing last night instead of Sam Donkey.

Oh, I see now, Pearce was being saved for the more important game.

I've only just realised this was our reserves, not our Academy!!!

Whilst Brum are no great shakes, it's still a stunning result. SURELY we'll be seeing one or two of these lads on the 1st team (i.e. Premiership) bench before much longer?

Coppell obviously doesn't see performances in reserve team football as an indicator of ability to do it in the first team. To be fair to Coppell, he's probably right. The level of reserve team football is is pretty poor, I've never heard of any of those Brum players. It was little more than an U18 game.

The problem is what else can players like Pearce do? Even been out on loan and done well, all be it in League 1. We really should be putting these players out on loan to Championship sides, although you could argue that the squad needs these players just in case.

It's all a bit of a conundrum really.

Yeah.

A friend of mine works with his father, he is proud as punch, can't wait to pack up work and be supported by his Premier League playing son.

Interesting that Gibbs was managing the side again.

Is this now a permenant thing or was McDermot just away doing some last minute scouting before the trasnfer window closes?

I suspect Coppell has seen too many budding careers brought to shuddering halt by the impact of 1st team football too early in young players' development to be tempted to play them against his better judgment.

He'll play them when the time is right, but whilst they are still learning the game in the Reserves and developing physically and mentally he presumably considers there is more to lose (both for the team and the individual) by chucking them in too early just for the sake of it.

18-19 year olds who play too much football at a high level very often don't "train on". Just give them time and I reckon we'll see the fruits in a couple of years time.

Birmingham: Krysiak; Howland, Joyce, Hall, Wilson; Green, Burge, Mutch (Sammons 57), Milojevic; Aluko, McPike
Subs: Timmins, Lea, Gradwell, Sheldon

So there U18 side basically. Puts the result in perspective.
