And ALOL at the levels of hypocrisy on here. Until the signings made that summer, he had taken the club backwards during his reign.

Great great season. So many happy memories. Long 4 hour drives down, watch the footy, an hour stuck in the car park then 4 hours home again and all with a smile on my face, slapping my leg and singing along to any crap song on the radio after 606 or Talksport.

On my way back from Leicester it was good old Elvis being pumped out at high volume and me yelling along to it. Magic days!
And to be honest, they still are.

Terrific manager, and we've all got our thoughts on is it Coppell not wanting to spend or is it the chairman not wanting to spend, but we have a great manager here at Reading and I'll be devasted when the day comes that he decides to leave.

Royalee, I too questioned where we were heading that season. Some questionable signings perhaps, some funny tactics along the way, but everything just clicked and that team gelled, and when they did they turned into the best team to ever grace the Championship!

If there's a supporter that still feels Coppell hasn't done enough, get your coat and sod off. He has more than proven himself to be a dam good manager and an even better top flight manager.

Many doubted him after his short time at Man City, but he has more than proved the doubters wrong.

A genuine Reading legend!

I'll never ever forget the Leicester away game as long as I live. Schards and I couldn't get tickets together, so I sat with my three kids up at the back and he and his brother sat much further forward. Just after the final whistle, Schards appeared in front of me and I was so pleased for him, that after 35 years of watching RFC he'd seen us get to the Prem. That's why I'm so desperate for us to stay here. I can't see us "bouncing" back - hardly any teams ever do. So fingers and everything else crossed that we manage to stay up and then can improve the side for next season and maintain our position here for many many years to come. And ANYONE who doesn't give Steve Coppell the greatest respect for what he has achieved for us is a complete and utter idiot imho.

Yes, Paul Brooker, Dean Morgan and Lloyd Owusu really took the club forward along with Keown and Ferdinand. Do you suffer from amnesia?

I'm sure King coppell has already done this, but that video should be played to the entire team any time they feel down, depressed, unmotivated, fed up, lonely, feeling like losers, with no hope of winning, etc... It's a reminder of part of the journey taken, and just how amazing that time was. Let's face it, it's bloody easy to forget that season sometimes, or to forget the feeling of it. I'm sure the players forget a lot.

Thinking about it, that's probably why it's so good to try to keep hold of most of the team as possible, as that season as well as earlier ones will mean absolutely nothing to new players.

Yes, he is a damn good manager and i'm sure we would miss him if he were to leave, despite the fact that some of his transfers have been a bit dodgy some have been brilliant aswell and he fully deserves all the credit he gets, you cant win manager of the seaons 2 years running without being good!

They were players that improved us at the time, and they were within our budget! Players also that Coppell knew and could come in and do a job from the off.

Paul Brooker wasn't even as good as Scott Murray, and Morgan and Owusu aren't fit to lace Curo's boots.

Coppell didn't have Curo here so that's irrelevant.

I remember Owusu coming in, just after we were stuffed by Palace, we had 1 fit striker on the books. Owusu had netted 20+ goals for Brentford under Coppell 2 seasons previous and was available. Made sense, and to be fair Lloyd did ok here. Brooker was rubbish and Morgan was at the time a no risk freebie. For what we needed at the time they were all ok. When Coppell had the fresh start picking his team he replaced these lads with players to take Reading on, which he succeeded in.

Providing we stay up I would imagine a similar thing happening here in the summer, I think a lot of the current squad will be shipped out!
