Ratings v Brum

by winchester_royal » 22 Mar 2008 23:36

USA-7 Match winning saves, but crap kicking
LR-7 Solid game
BK-8 Couple of lapses in concentration, but otherwise excellent
Ingi-7 Lack of pace still clear, but speed of mind makes up for it
Shorey-8 Lovely free kick for goal and made no errors
Oster-7 At times he can look so good, and other times he looks so bad....doesn't deserve the constant critiscism, but nor does he deserve to be a premiership footballer
Marek-8 Worked so hard, tackling and strength improving....some of his passes and hold up play was a joy to watch
Harps-6 Anomynous
Hunt-7 Good run and shot, can't remember much else from him though
Kits-7 Minimal attacking thread, but helped out the midfield and defense heroically
Doyle-8 Deserved a goal for all the work he put in, some lovely link play and never stopped working

Long-7 Excellent impact when he came on, unlucky to start as sub IMO
Cisse-6 Did OK

No.13 - 8 Good atmospehere today

Shorey was far more an 8 than Ivar who had his worst game in ages for me today. I can barely think of Shorey getting beaten defensively and his free kick was sublime.

USA 7 - crucial saves at crucial times

Rosie 6 - good enough, muffed a couple of passes (one forward bound pass went 90 degrees to touch

BK 8 - great somersaults

Ivar 7 - Solid airbourne clearances, three wins out of four as captain.

Shorey 7 - What you would expect from him today

Oyster 7 - Not perfect but great crossing and (eventually) delicate switch play when Rosie finally came forward

Hunty 6 - great solo effort that hit the bar....usual tenacity, but barged off of the ball once too often

Matty 5 - good work rate, but cannot win a challenge, one or two balls went astray ...overhyped?

Harps 5 - He was there.....somewhere

Doyler 6 - tries hard but (as has been the case for much of this season) not given/nor finds the space to shoot

Kits 8 - Defends as well as he attacks...............tries anything.

Cisse 6 - seemed ok, made one telling challenge
Long 6 - took a kick to his pretty boy face, unlucky to be fouled everytime that he was through.

#13 5 - pretty poor in comparison to the last game (and that includes myself)

Have to say AP's ratings are pretty much identical to how I saw the game.

I do find those ratings odd. MM was clearly our best midfield player yesterday - the way he drops his shoulder and dummies the opposition time after time is a joy to watch and his passing is by far the most inventive we have seen at this club for years. To me he is still getting better every game, and of course he nearly scored another cracker from distance. (Sidwell eat your heart out!)

Agreed.

Though I suspect MM needs a different type of midfield partner other than Harper to allow him to really command a game.

Sidwell would be a good choice!

There was many times a thought MM was a class above everyone else, he first held the ball up and layed it off nicely for Hunt to hit the bar, when we had a period of dire pla yin the second half, he was the first to put his foot on the ball and spray it out right to oster (who i think inevitably wasted possession) He also played a simple yet bloomy clever little ball to Doyle who then cut back only for Oster to blast over. He did go quiet and hence his rlapcement I think, but overal, he is still very much to quick for our players at the moment.

USA 7 - Everything good except for distribution
Rosenior 7 - Murty who? Think there was a few misplaced passes but again never looked particularly troubled
Inga 6/7 - Not particularly great, i think it was him who allowed the cross to come in for the goal. Other than that fairly solid
Bikey 9 - Defensively sound, though allowed Zarate to get the wrong side of him for the goal....offensively..well....
Shorey 7 - Wasnt too shabby, involved in a lot of long balls up but thats not a reflection on him, rather the tactics and other options he has. Defensively sound

Hunt 6 - Battled but no end product...others shone today
Harper 6 - Rather anonymous to me, still not up to MM's thought levels
MM 7 - Still to quick and intelligent to look good in this team, whe they catch up, he'll look dynamite 8)
Oster 6/7 - Few things looked good, but was wasteful

Doyle 6/7 - Battled, not inform in terms of goal-scoring, but like all good strikers, when not scoring, he does his best to do the grunt work
Kitson 7 - Did ok, same commitment though didnt do anything special

Alan Partridge Hahnemann 7
Rosenior 7
Shorey 8
Bikey 9
Ivar 5
Oster 6
Hunt 5
Matejovsky 6
Harper 6
Doyle 6
Kitson 7

Cisse 6
Long 6

Agreed, except that I'd give Matejovsky 7 and Kitson 6, on the basis that whilst he deserves a 7 for his defensive work, his attacking wasn't worth anything more than a 5.

Good to see that Harper maintains his level of mediocrity in terms of performance. no doubt the rose tinted wearers will be piling in later with 8's and 9's!

He a championship level player - about time people started to see that in centre midfield he's our weak link

Hahnemann - 8 - Not a lot to do, apart from the point-blanker from Forssell which turned the match really.
Rosenior - 7 - Solid, again lot a lot to do. Slipped for McSheffrey's early chance.
Bikey - 9 - Brilliant game. Twice lost his marker (well once!) to get the all-important goals. One foul all game?
Ingimarsson - 7 - Solid.
Shorey - 7 - Delivered the free-kick, apart from that again not much to do.
Oster - 7 - Played the ball to Hunt to win the free-kick, then delivered a peach for the goal. Faded out. Missed a sitter.
Matejovsky - 7 - Some delightful balls (as always), and ever improves. Played 1 horrible pass which let in Forssell (I think).
Harper - 6 - A bit anonymous...
Hunt - 7 - Didn't do much. Industrious, as always, and had the 25-yarder onto the bar.
Doyle - 8 - When will he score! He deserves a goal for not dropping his head ever.
Kitson - 8 - Was everywhere.

Long - 7 - Pace won the free-kick, and could have put it beyond doubt in the last 5 minutes.
Cisse - 6 - Shored things up.

Im afraid these are 3 ratings which i completely disagree with, Oster was not a seven and he certainly was not better than MM.

Kitson was not an 8, he had an average game attacking wise

Hahnemann - 8 - A couple of crucial saves
Rosenior - 7 - Solid, looks like he will be keeping hold of the shirt
Bikey - 8 - A couple of well timed tackles and got both goals
Ivar - 6 - Beaten for the goal, some of his passing wasn't great, although was pretty solid defensively.
Shorey - 7 - Good delivery and wasn't really beaten all game
Oster - 6 - Good delivery and his crossing wasn't bad, but held up our counter-attacks
Harper - 6 - Worked hard and was solid.
Matejovsky - 6 - Some very clever and inventive passes, but we nearly caught out by some of his slack passes.
Hunt - 6 - A bit anomynous, but worked hard#
Kitson - 6 - Worked hard with some good interventions, but didn't look like scoring.
Doyle - 6 - Again worked hard, but didn't look like scoring. Perhaps a bit unlucky with the bounce of the ball.
