Would you want Sidwell back?

by Archie's penalty » 25 Mar 2008 21:13

A discussion on another thread has made me consider this question. So lads and lasses would you take Steven back? And would he fit into what we have here? Could Matejovsky and Sidwell work as a partnership?

He is not the be all and end all, but he is a cracking and proven player. Only a fool would turn him away?

And a shame to let him rot away in Chelsea's reserves. If he doesn't move somewhere this summer I'll be VERY surprised...

Yes. But we couldn't afford his wages. When he leaves Chelsea it'll be a Villa, West Ham, Newcastle that get him.

winchester_royal After the treachery.....

Treachery?

He was a great servant to the club and always gave his all right up until his last appearance for the club.

our club wasn't good enough for him, i am not a great one for wanting to take players back. if we had forced him out the door coz we were getting £10M for him it may be different

Now I'd rather have Steve Davies, on loan from fulham to glasgow rangers at the moment and impressing, has won numerous man of the match awards

Looked good at Villa but struggled at Fulham. Would be good to understand why!

It is working out for him at Ibrox. If (when) fulham go down I suspect they'll need to offload to recover some of the £20M they spent last summer

Yeah, all he did was turn down a contract to play for a bigger and more successful club on much higher wages. Get a grip WR.

I'd have him back providing he didn't cost us too much. He'll have to take a pay cut to leave Chelsea, but would it be a big enough cut. I don't think he'd come back because it would be an admission of a mistake on his part.

He performed excellently last season, despite knowing he was set to move at the end of the season. Compare the consistency and commitment he showed last year with the abysmal displays we have seen from Nicky Shorey at times this year.

I was always pleased to see him in the Chelsea line-up and wish him well next year. Maybe he could go to a decent foreign club?

Sid and Marek would be the perfect partners hip imo for us.

But Sid will end up at a Villa type club, as he was always going to really.

Still fair play for him for giving it a go at Chelsea, he won't be looking back and saying what if??

Yes, because he is what he is!
He knew he was leaving and it did not detract from his performances
Steve Coppell, who knew he was leaving, always maintained that SS acted professionally!
We need a club captain with cohonas and they are worth big fees and wages!
Marek the thinker, paired up with a ball winning tiger that has been working with Makalele et al, if he would come we should welcome him with open arms!
Yes please!!!

I think we would be stupid not to jump at the chance, but Sidwell has moved on from us, and no doubt will move on in the summer probably to somewhere like Portsmouth or Villa, where European football will be an option, however if he wants to come back to us i will welcome him with open arms

Sidwell never gave up on us, even though he knew he was going to leave. When he left he said all the right things (apart from the wife and child thing), he never said anything bad about RFC and said he will always look out for us and will see it as the club where he made his name. A true servant to Reading FC and i for one wish him all the best

What sidwell could have done is signed a 2 year deal at the start of last season with a clause that lets him leave if a club offered 3 million, as it was we missed out on a sizable fee for an excellent player

Even so, we are evolving into a new reading.....no looking back
