not scapegoating just a reality -Harper isnt up to it - we have rarely played well this year and every time Haprer has been criticised, the rose tinted spec wearers have jumped to his defence - if they jump to his defence after today, the they dont know anything about football!

I would certainly question what you know about football. Harper may well have been poor today as were most of the rest of the side however he has played a full-part and been practically an ever present in the most successful period(by miles) in Reading FC's history.
It may surprise you to know that since 1871 we have not had many central midfielders that have gone on to have successful careers in top flight football.

Practically no-one was up to it today.

Apart from possibly the keeper. And the bar.

However you can't drop everyone.

And on this occasion it was more a case of Fulham being more up for it than we were.

Perhaps our players will be up for it against Wigan and Spurs when we will probably be in the drop zone.

Oh you can.

The alternative Reading XI

Fed

DLC
Sonko
Cisse
Goldbourne

Little
Kebe
Fae
Gunnar
Convey

Lita

Sadly I think this team would do just as badly.

Harper is a passenger when you need a scrap. When the team is playing well then he looks the part, he keeps the ball moving around and occasionally pops up with a goal now and then.

However it's scrap time, we need people who are going to win games for us, people who are going to physically dominate the opposition, Harper couldn't dominate a shit. He was hopelessly outclassed today along with Marek, I lost count of the times they would walk it around these two or just run through unoppsed.

Harper historically always blows hot and cold, when we had that run of 13 without a win a few years ago, Harper was wretched, in fact he was hauled off at Crewe after half an hour or so during a 1-0 defeat as he was THAT bad. Last season when we were going well he had a run of really poor games and he was the weakest link in the midfield 4. Due to lack of investment we started the season off with Harper as our number 1 midfield man. Absolutely ludicrous. It is no surprise to me or anyone who has watched James Harper throughout his 300 apps for Reading that he produces performances like today.

what utter bullsh*t Harper is so much better than anyone gives him credit for. We miss him when he doesn't play and to his credit that is not very often, why is it not very often, well because of his commitment to being a footballer as evidenced by the fact he is always training, i remember a story about him training with the under 10's, when the rest of the team were enjoying the time of they were given he was hard at work!if the others showed half this commitment then we wouldn't be where we are.

The only reason that Harper is a regular is firstly Coppell is blinded by loyalty to him and secondly we have such an inferior central midfield option, who else can play there - and with all the training he does, as you say, its a pity it doesnt seem to pay off on the pitch where it matters! Commitment doesnt necessarily make you an essential player, Id rather habve a player with less commitment but notably more impact on the pitch where it matters

Coppell is over loyal though isn't he, just look at Doyle and how pants he's been for the best part of 4 months.

You have a problem with Harper which prevents you seeing how he actually plays
He played ok, his pass competion was not bad and he was one of only very few who could at least say he tried all game
Get another hobby horse - this one is boring
