Shane Long

by earleyroyal » 12 Apr 2008 19:17

Does anyone have some inside information that could explain his apparent lack of effort today? The way I saw it he didn't chase anything, or even attempt to win anything. His first touch was crap but more worrying was the listless way in which he played, maybe he was ill? I was surprised by his performance as he's not one of the players you would expect to put so little into a game.

Maybe I saw it differently but I've never seen him put in a performance with so little energy, I realise he's not Pele but he normally gives 100% effort and commitment, even when playing the full 90. Today he didn't seem to, which is different to being crap.

Let me put it another way: if Lita had turned in the same performance today, would he have been booed off and slagged off by many on HNA? I have a feeling he may have been.

Of course he would. The same had Seol put in the performances that Hunt has put in recently.

Lita given the minutes Doyle has had would have had more than ZERO goals to his name.

It must be blindingly obvious to anyone apart from Coppell that Long isn't a premiership standard player.

League One maybe, but Premiership or championship, no.

Totally disagree. He has played well in recent weeks albeit coming off the bench rather than starting.

Long hasn't played in recent weeks , this may be why you think he has played well.

So it must have been my imagination when he came off the bench and played well a couple of weeks ago against Blackburn then?, and that he played well and scored against Man City as well....uuummmm somehow I think I will stick with what I said.

Welcome to RFC.

Oster (not good enough for Burnley)
Hunt (not good enough for Brentford)
Harper (Not good enough)
Matejovsky (as yet to create 1 goal with all his 'vision' and ability to 'pick a pass') he is still > gunnarsson.

Those 5 have formed our midfield for the majority of the season, it is no wonder we are heading where thes players belong, the football league.

In fairness I'm not slagging Long off as he is what he is.

It's more a question of why he was put in that position (ie starting).

Be interesting to see what he would do with Kitson if he played with him for a reasonable period of time.

Although it's possibly not the time for trying stuff, especially if it means dropping Kevin Golden Bollox.
