Bolton's Remaining Games

by size 12 » 14 Apr 2008 14:18

For reference, this is what Bolton still have to face, in their quest to get three more points than Reading:

Middlesboro (away)
Spurs (away)
Sunderland (home)
Chelsea (away)

Compared to Reading

Arsenal (away)
Wigan (away)
Spurs (home)
Derby (away)

I can see them getting a maximum of 4 points from that lot, meaning a win at Derby will be enough for Reading. Therefore my prediction is that we will stay up with 35/36 points

derby away is nailed on loss for me
that would be RFC all over
but then im in a particularly negative frame of mind at the moment
when we beat arsenal i could change my outlook slightly

I think Bolton will get 4 and ourselves 1 which puts us down on GD! That was according to the bbc predictor thingy anyway.

I know we won't win at Derby, 1-1 draw.

Before the Fulham game, I thought three points was in the bag for us. I based that on the Newcastle performance, when the players themselves said they were sh*te, so I expected a "lets put this right" performance.... WRONG !!!

So I just hope it's just my bad mood today that is telling me I cannot see us getting another point !

I bloody hope I am wrong. If Coppell says the pressure of the occassion got to the players, lets hope the Wigan away, Spurs and Derby matches aren't "pressure" games !

I think we will go to Derby needing a draw to keep us up.

I really hope not. If Saturday/Newcastle is anything to go by, the ONE thing that made us so good last year, and that is the "If we lose, the other team will have to work so hard for the three points" attitude has gone west, and without it we are a team with little or no belief in themselves.

If we can re-discover that attitude, I think we will pick up at least six points... but that's where Coppell and co must work their magic.

One of the teams they have is Liverpool, as do Birmingham. We need Everton to get something against Chelsea on Thursday, otherwise a CL place will be done and dusted for 'Pool and they'll start playing their reserves in league games. That's two teams cancelling out our win against the redscouse for sure. Fulham did it last year, and they'll do it again on Saturday, I reckon.

Relax chaps.

I've just done some sums and basically, irrespective of our other results, if we beat Derby away on the last day, we stay up.

why are we viewing the derby game as a banker/insurance policy

we are one of the few teams they're capable of betaing, we'll be under huge pressure, they'll be free as bird but motivated to beat points record, i.e. nothing to lose

we'll have to work hard to nick it there, it'll come down to a dodgy refereeing decision in our favour

Another key thing for Bolton is that they have Kevin Davies missing for their next two matches. He is crucial to their style of play and are likely to struggle in an attacking sense without him.

We on the other hand could be missing all our strikers and it wouldn't make a single bit of difference.
