We've got the whole world in our hands

by Coppelled Streets » 26 Apr 2008 17:56

It's still in our hands!

Two games to go and still a point above the drop zone.

Now there's a reason for optimism!!!

A clean sheet away from home and a point - great.

Bring on Tottenham and then bring on Derby.

I still don't think we'll win away from home but when it becomes a cup final for us I'm sure we'll come through.

WE ARE STAYING UP!

I hope you're right.
The fixtures everyone has still means it is massively wide open.
A point against spurs and a win at derby would do it, i think, for certain.
Anything less and we'll be relying on everyone elses results still.

We are relying heavily on Sunderland beating Bolton next weekend and us getting a result against Spurs.

We may be out of the bottom three but I just do not like the look of the others fixtures.

Sunderland have nothing to play for and Bolton could win that.

If Birmingham beat Fulham next week we are stuffed as far as I can see. They then play Blackburn at home and could easily get a result as well.

The Pompey players hoping to figure in the cup final will soft pedal in their league games and that could throw a spanner in the works! But we are alive and kicking, what more could we ask for at this stage?

Wolsey is correct.

4 points = safe

3 points = relegated

It all boils down to getting a point off of Spurs, given our lack of firepower, we should play for a 0-0

Because Brum are playing Fulham, am I right in saying we can't be safe next week even if we win ?

Sorry to say it chaps, but I think we are going down. We just cant score. It's that simple. We aint going to win against Spurs, nor do I think we can get anything at Derby. I know they are rubbish, but have you seen Hunt play recently? Or Doyle? We are relying on other teams failing I think..

Correct although we would have to lose at Derby to potentially go down.
At the moment I dont really know what result I want from Fulham/Brum. I would hope Pompey still have a sniff for 5th place and play their best side against Fulham.
Of all the relegation battlers we appear to have the best run-in. Trouble is we have forgotten how to score.

Trouble is we have forgotten how to score.

Too true.

7 goals in the last 16 games.

That's the equivalent of scoring 16-17 over a whole season.

Mind you, if we did win next week, and Bolton lost, we'd be virtually safe as Bolton would need to win at Chelsea, and we'd have to lose to Derby.

The longer we stay 1 point above the zone the more likely I think it is we'll slip into it just at the wrong moment. :|

But it is still there for the taking.

Schards#2 Wolsey is correct.

4 points = safe

Basically that just assumes that Bolton lose at Chelsea. If they get a point there then 4 points is potentially not enough

No, it assumes that, or, that Birmingham don't win both their remaining games (which, given Fulham's performance today, isn't totally unlikely).

Nor can we be relegated. It's going to Derby.

Bolton are playing Sunderland at home aren't they? If so, Sunderland have nothing to play for = very likely a Bolton win.

Yes. I was hoping Sunderland would lose today as they would still need something at the Reebok next week. If Bolton win next week we have to get a minimum of four points to move above them and thats on the assumption they lose to Chelsea.
There are some crumbs of comfort. We should surely score in the next couple of games as we are playing against two of the three worst defences in the division(we all know who the second worst defence is).
Spurs away record is dismal. Two wins out of 18. That has to give us some hope.

Sunderland have getting rid of Bolton for next season and ensuring that there's at least one team they're better than (i.e. us) still there to kick around.

If Birmingham and Bolton both win next week we're in deep excrement unless we win too. If we lose, we need help regardless. I think the most important result next week is Bolton-Sunderland. If Bolton fail to win, that helps us hugely no matter how we get on. Of course, all these calculations are pointless if we can't beat Derby, but I figure that's just a reason to assume we will and face the consequences if the assumption is unfounded.
