The Legend That Is John Oster

by Coppelled Streets » 04 May 2008 10:52

We'll be hoping he stays with us next season!

Little is still staring at retirement and we can only hope James Henry gets a chance, and Oster will be a key player in the fizzy pop league for us.

All those boo's, how ironic that we'll now need a player of his experience next season!

Kebe? C'ya.

John Oster's experience is exactly why we're heading to the Championship and will struggle within it next season.

I have some sympathy for Oster, he is not the reason that we are not likely to stay up, he has been called upon this year and if his performances haven't been up to the Premiership then he should have been replaced, but of course we as a club, and this is directly pointed at the management and owner, dont invest in the future we wallow in the last couple of years whether it is misguided loyalty, the wish not to pay transfer or the stunning overseas market that we keep diving into ? Oster has come in when asked, what more can he do ???

Cant understand why he is still at the club
Clearly isnt good enough in the premiership
May well need him next season if we do go down.
I hope that whatever happens next weekend at derby oster is told to get on his bike at the end of the season

I'd suggest he is still at the club because he was one of very few creating anything in the last couple of months and was the only fit semi-decent right winger available to us.

But hey, if the fans hate him lets get rid of him and play Doyle on the right. He's done such a fantastic job this season. Or Kebe.

I'd suggest that it's primarily a symbolic gesture - him being our main right winger viewed as the manifestation of our insufficient level of investment/complacency this season.

I certainly don't attach any blame to Oster - he hasn't underperformed this season and he didn't cost us a transfer fee.

He is just a bit-part journeyman champ player (at best), so how can he be blamed for demonstrating that in the Prem?

Go on then. Give us the reasons why.

Because he's never beaten a man in his life, kills all momentum when we break by looking scared shitless and gives the ball away far too cheaply. He can't track back either, but then again even you probably knew that.

Does that answer your question?

Oster was terrific for us at the start of the season, until he got injured, but he was always meant to be a squad player rather than a starter. He was a good understudy, but not good enough for the lead role on a permanent basis.

He came back from injury and played badly, well below what he is capable of, and incredibly enough, despite being encouraged by booing from his own supporters, didn't regain his confidence.

Good display at United on the opening day coming on for Seol. Our MOTM against Chelsea, then Coppell for some reason dropped him and he was injured within minutes of coming on as sub vs Everton.

So, by "start" we mean one full match? (PS Hunt was MOTM against Chelsea)
