Reading 2-0 Stoke City - March(?) '98.

His first home game in charge and 'that' header from Michael O'Neill.

Although Reading still had Forest & 'Boro to come you could kind of sense an optimism of staying up.

Think it was actually the last win of the season!

Best game - Reading 3-0 Luton, Mass Sarr looked the bargain of the season and would have been at home in the premiership. Gave me real hope.

Best result was winning at the Britania Stadium, Mark McKeever got two on his debut and I think we won 4-0.

Best goal that I can recall was the long range effort by Neil Clement, on loan from Chelsea.

Best signing at the time was Nicky Forster, although in retrospect Graeme Murty was the best buy.

Reading 3-0 Luton - Enough said, 1st game at the Madejski and we played really well.

Reading 2-1 Stoke - Great atmosphere, 4,000 Stokies singing Delilah and great celebration when Jimmy Mac scored the winner with minutes to spare

Reading 2-1 Preston - Injury time Tony Thorpe penalty

Reading 3-3 Bournemouth - Great game, end to end drama.

Stoke 0-4 Reading - Great 2nd half display from the team

Reading 2-1 Bristol City - Jimmy Crawford winner on the opening day of the season.

Reading 0-6 Bristol Rovers.

How it wasn't double figures only Jason Roberts knows.

Can any well informed Nobbers remember TB first game in charge?
Who it was against and the result.

I could have sworn we were away at Portman road....where he introduced about 7 news faces...
but checking the fixtures I must be wrong. I do remeber us being beaten....(I think)

phew ! Glad my memory is in some sort of order.
I remember it being a strange game...the team list on the back of the programme was a scrawl of crossed out and penned in names of people I hardly knew. Rather surreal watching a Reading team nearly unrecognisable from the one playing the week before. Took 25 minutes to be sure who was who..

I do remeber being outraged at the game...and thanks to Thaumagurist I now know why..

By the way, v sad to hear about his passing. As many have said, 51 is a life cut horribly short.

The Luton 3-0 game, the performance took my mind off the disappointment of the new ground.

Wasn't the Ipswich game with two sendings off the 5-2 defeat a year or two before? Bobby Mihaylov and Andy Bernal IIRC.

So, the Magnificent Seven:

Jimmy McIntyre
Stuart Gray
Jimmy Crawford
Paul Brayson
Patrick Kelly
Scott Howie
Robert Fleck

Reilly, Brebner and McLaren followed later didn't they?

It is difficult to imagine seven worse players.
Does anybody remember the load he bought on deadline day in the next season?

Reading 1 Sam Allardyce's Notts County 0
A great goal scored by........ erm ....them, and a streaker with even less tackle potential than our entire defence
