I don't think we'll go up next year... I think play-offs will be realistic. I'd be happy with that.

Why does Coppell staying give us a better chance? He made some poor team selections in the second half of the season and that cost us dearly.Loaning Lita out when he did was madness!!!

If SC hadn't loaned out Lita when he had then Lita would not be the improved pro he is now.
The loaning was a good move, although the time of bringing him back was not.
Still, it was a good move in my opinion.

You are quite right - Coppell is a complete wnaker.

Rather than let him resign we should sack him immediately.

After all he got us promoted in record fashion.
Took us to within an ace of Europe.
Dealt with problems with dignity and stoicism.
Loaned out a player who spent most of his time falling over - and when he came back hardly set the world alight. How many goals did Lita get in the Prem this year?

But yeah, we should all dump on Coppell for being an inexperienced man who has never taken clubs to their best ever finishes at more than one club. He will never be able to take a club to an FA cup final.... He is a waste of time.

On the other hand all those criticising him are more knowledgeable and experienced.

That is a big burden to bear and could be a nasty weight around our neck. We should hope for the best, but we certainly shouldn't expect it. Next season will be very very hard work.

I could understand if we'd stayed up people calling for Coppell to go. There were hints that he struggles in the big league with big signings and turning around bad runs. It may well have been time for fresh perspective and an overhaul of the squad, having been relegated I can't think of a better manager to have. He is an excellent second tier manager. He knows how to spot a bargain with bags of potential and bring them through. He knows how to organise a good team and get them playing top football and grinding out good results.

He has an excellent pedgree of gaining promotion to the Premier League, wasn't our one his 3rd? Certainly at least the 2nd and it was a top job. We have plenty of players good enough for this level, or in fact better than this level. Our out of from players can take the drop in standard to refind their quality, so we don't need to move too many on. We can do a slower a rebuild than would have been necessary had we stayed up.

The squad needs rebuilding and there are several clubs with huge ambitions and deep poockets in the mix next season. I don't think that an automatic bounce back is going to be anything like a certainty.

I would suggest that now is a very good time for SC to leave. Not because of his shortcomings, real or otherwise, but rather because given a possible lack of success next May, realistically, how long would he stay? For a man who usually deals in 1 year contracts, his tenure has been remarkably long already.

Continuing in the same mould risks a year of frustration, followed by Coppell going anyway, a mass clear out and the possible beginning of an inexorable downward spiral. However, a new manager would need time to settle in and to rebuild the squad. It may as well happen sooner rather than later. Given such a scenario, 8th to 10th would be a reasonable finish next season, hopefully followed by a realistic challenge the year after.

Some of the more wildly optimistic posts I have read on this subject make me think that I have wandered onto the Wolves or Saints boards in error.

If they're so rich why have they just nearly doubled their season tickets prices ?! Doesn't imply they're going to throw money at the club

I'd place Reading as favourites. Birmingham could go tits up if the chairman and board sell up. I think Sheffield United under Blackwell will be the ones to watch.

Derby won't go up automatically, Paul Jewell is overrated and full of excuses. They need almost an entire new side. If Leeds go up and I can see either them or Forest doing very well. QPR will also be up there. Roeder at Norwich will have bought his own players in and they should do well.

The standard of the Championship is very poor and any half decent team will walk the league.
