Sam Sodje

Coppell told the Evening Post: “There isn’t a particular team I am trying to get to, I just want players to be committed and compete for places.

“I don’t have an XI in mind or an XI I want to get to, I just want to try and get the best team possible.

“I have said to Sam at the moment, given the senior players we have here, he is down the list.

“Just out of common sense I have senior players who I will give priority to in pre-season and I told him I would not be taking him to Sweden with us and perhaps, if he can find himself a deal elsewhere, it could be in his best interests.

“I am not bombing him out, but I have just made him aware that if he stays then there are quite a few ahead of him.

“Centre-half is probably my healthiest position.”

I thought he would be useful in the Championship. Would rather see him stay and fight for his place.

Very diplomatic.

He could have just told him he was absolute toilet!

I have seen Sam Sodje score a goal.

He isn't very good though.

Certainly doesn't have a future.

Way down the pecking order, Charlton aren't even interested.

Came to us a season late imo. Did his job though.....

I see Bennett isn't going either.

So even without Bikey on tour thats two centre backs going spare.

Neither are good enough in all honesty, if we can get any sort of fee it would be a bonus. AndeROFLsen as back up, can't watch him at Maiders now!

Which was?

This is what I don't get. Instead of going for someone 'beneath' us as cover, why we didn't spend a touch more and look for someone who would really put pressure on the squad when injuries had cleared.

We went and signed Duberry in January anyway.

Difficult to say really isn't it.

He was a bit of a panic/gamble, even if he was signed early in July. At the time we only had Ivar and Sonks as recognised centre backs. Gunnarsson had played there a few times the season before, but that was about it.

A couple of weeks later we had Mate and Bikey in as loans, but Sodje was a very long shot at adding some depth to the squad. He proved at Wigan how out of his depth he was though, which I guess is why we had to go and get Duberry in Jan to give us some resemblence of cover for Sonko's injury.

Sodje has to be one of the worst signings in recent times as he was never going to be good enough. If Allardyce or Redknapp had signed him there'd be a Panarama investigation into it.

Looking back, it makes Ivar and Sonko's performances and run of games for the best part of two seasons even more incredible.

The comment was meant as tongue in cheek. Should have added some roley eyes!!

My point was he was just another one of the many players Coppell signed who weren't even as good as what we already had....

I feel a bit sorry for him as I am sure he could do a good job at Championship level but he is not PL class and SC is quite rightly looking to the future.

I really hope someone comes in for him and he gets the chance to play somewhere this season.

Sodje's attitude >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sonko's. And on last season form, I'd sooner have Sam than Sonko.

This is the list of other centre backs at the club. Who would you rate Sodje ahead of?

Michael Duberry
Ivar Ingimarrsson
Alex Pearce
Ibrahima Sonko
Andre Bikey
Alan Bennett

Well, yeah, we've got too many centre backs and Coppell wants a smaller squad, so he's trying to get rid of a couple, so Sodje and Bennett are out. I would say out of that list, possibly four are better than Sodje, so there's not a chance of him breaking into the team, so he might as well go.
